I’m gonna be honest I don’t think I’ve ever had a serious head injury happen. I’ve had the occasional broken nose it that’s really it. I don’t think I could ever see Steel Brow as a pick with only 11 perk points, but I default colossus on everyone so maybe that’s it? I’ve had guys die and 1-2 of them probably got head shot but I’ve spent like 300 days in this game fighting in the north full of spiked maces and the head injuries just aren’t there.

Despite what the tooltip says, steel brow isn't really for preventing injuries, it's for preventing one-shots. It reduces head damage from critical (1.5x) to regular (1.0x) damage. High penetration weapons like heavy crossbows or berserker chains can one-shot your guys when they land a head shot unless they have a huge HP pool or steel brow.

If your guy has plenty of HP, yeah, you can safely skip it. Alternatively, you can grab colossus instead, which is more of an all-around survivability perk.

That makes sense, thanks. Yeah I put a lot of merit in HP (and resolve) so I usually end up with a lot of both on all my keepers.

I haven't done it but making new items should be very easy as long as you have art assets that you can use.

Actually integrating them into the game by adding them to store and loot lists would probably mean a lot of annoying busywork, though, and be very prone to mod incompatibilities.

Good to know. There's a tunic mod on the nexus and yeah it looks like adding the items to the lists is a lot more work than just making them. I wonder if you just add it to the crafting list if it's not too bad though. Might have to see how that mod does it, he has both craftable and buyable versions.

For now I've just been using BBEdit to give my guys a few extra perks when they get up to 14-15. Feels good to grab a second mastery or pathfinder/footwork and not feel penalized for it, but past 13 it starts to get a little too powerful so some sort of middle ground like a potion to do it would be cool. EDIT: And it sucks to do manually

I wish there existed a mod that would remove loving alps from the game. Every time they appear, they just suck the fun out of it. I purposely avoided any jobs that would involve them, but now I'm ambushed by six of them, which means it's time to say goodbye to this company.

I really preferred them before the change. They were unfun, but also manageable, if you remembered to spread your soldiers properly. Now they summon like 14 nightmares before I even get to move, giving me no choice but to fight them and leaving me with no action points to even move. At best I can kill two shadows with each brother, which just means the alp will summon them back in the next turn. Dogs don't work anymore, because they tend to attack the nightmares and they got nerfed in the last expansion, having only two attacks with lowered chance to hit.

I think this is a testament to how OP high level barbarians are:

I got the barbarian king event, and the follow up against the untoward. It attaches me to the the kings army like a caravan, and we move north. Kings army runs into a 14 orc party lead by a warlord. Kills the orc party with no losses on the strategic map. Get to the event battle, and the kings army kills all of them without my input, I literally hit end all turns 10 times and just watched the battle (other than 1 dude who got tossed into me by the unhold).

The armored snow unhold wasn't under the beastmaster's control because it probably bugged out as part of the event, but it then also killed all of the remaining barbarians and I had to kill it to finish the battle.

Also the changed item options for Bastards and Adventurous Nobles were bugged because they referred to two incorrectly spelled weapon files so occasionally the game would lock up when it generated one of those.

The bardiche's Split doesn't have the inherent -5% accuracy penalty of 2h sword Split so they're the same assuming Mastery and the bardiche is more accurate without Mastery.

Send me the new files whenever. We have sideways walked into a mod now.

EDIT: on a similar note though mercenary parties are a pretty good source for 210-300 armor once you are comfortably clearing out raider/reaver groups. If you can find one that’s like 11-12 strong but with 3-4 dogs you can generally get them down pretty safely and net yourself a sellsword armor or solid weapon or 2. Can save yourself some money since common gear drops kind of tap out at ~140 and a lot of the good undead/barbarian stuff has high fatigue compared to the real stuff. Once I noticed this I jumped up from ~225 average to ~275 pretty fast.

Also another strong point of morale bombing, everyone in direwolf adorned armor can surround and morale break guys that would be tough to kill otherwise. I pull that off on Warlords/Hedge Knights a good amount.

The higher level one is basically a noble sword (same 45-50, think same % too) with a cleaver-ish secondary vs riposte. Neat in a way but not really outstanding. The secondary lowers injury threshold IIRC so paired with crippling strikes it could make a pretty good injury bro.

Also another thing I just noticed is that 2 handed falbrand sword thing only uses 4 AP per attack, like 2H cleavers. I thought it was just like a lovely longsword but it might be pretty useful depending on when you get it.

Warbrand slashes are also using the actual Slash attack, so +10% to-hit. It's not a great weapon and I'd pretty much never use it over a Longsword, but if a Raider drops one early and you've got a guy with the stats to wield it you can get some poo poo done.

Apparently the latest patch gave Fallen Heroes Resilient.

All Barbarians already had it.
So did Sergeants, Hedge Knights and Lindwurms.

I hope nobody ever made a Two-handed Mace specialist thinking the 2 turn stun would be really good to control tough priority targets because most of these priority targets now either have Resilient or are just flat out immune to stuns (Orc Berserkers/Warriors/Warlords, Schrats, Unholds).

It's good against Knights, Zweihänders and Necrosavants I guess but I think that's all there is.

I got back into this game after not playing since the Lindwurm expansion. I am terrible and lost about a dozen campaigns in a row before finally upping my starting gold and having a pretty good run. I'm only up to a handful of scale armor and decent weapons but I recently fought off two groups of undead led by necromancers and only lost a couple weak bros, then wrecked a group of Unholds. Pretty sure everyone will die horribly soon, but there's so much new stuff to check out I don't really mind.

You're in luck! They are all using mod hooks now.

Script Hooks

I went mod hunting today and found some good ones. I'm going to link a lot of the ones I'm probably gonna use. Sticking to mainly UI stuff if I can, at least for now, but there are some decent item changing ones on there too if you look around.

Tryout Talents
The original guy updated his with mod hooks so it works with other stuff now, also has a 2x cost version. The Alternative version doesn't use mod hooks!

Better Obituary
Shows a lot more detail in the obit page, including bros lost to events and stuff.

Veteran level perks
Adds some randomized stat rolls for levels above 11 and also gives a perk point every 3 levels after 11, more important it's two seperate files!

Auto End Turn Toggle
Adds a toggle to the top bar for the automatically ending turn at >2 AP, so you can use adrenaline and such on those characters.

Company Tabards
Little bit heavier, but it adds tabards to shops and the taxi that boost armor and resolve. Pretty well made though, and a good thing to look at if you want to add items.

Better Combat Log
Expands size + shows rolls for morale checks and such if you care to know

Inventory Stats
Shows base attribute numbers so you don't need to strip and reorders them if you care to

Settlement Tooltips
Tooltips shows what things like "Well Supplied" is actually doing to a settlement.

Better King's Guard
You can get a bro from an event that takes a while to heal only to be kind of mediocre as hell, especially for his salary. This pushes him closer to (but under) a Hedge Knight's stats.

Settlement proximity prices
Shows the sell and buy modifiers in the tooltips of towns as you get close, also a full map version if you want

Conflict Pause
Adds auto-pause when you spot enemies on the strat map

Longer Endgame Crises
Lets you make the endgame crisis 2x/4x/infinite, definitely trying out 2x at least. (****this file is kind of old, not sure if that will be problematic)

Easier Lone Wolf
This one is more of a personal for this 500+ day game, I'm not abandoning my archers because the legendary locations penalize them :v: , YMMV

I tried out the event frequency mod, and it's either broken or is limiting the events so I'm passing on that for now.
