It's true that Antti Rinne called the shots, but after the EU elections it was presumed that Heinäluoma would get the ticket. But then Rinne blurted out that the next commissar should be a woman and Jutta Urpilainen commented that there have been male commissars for 25 years or so, so it's pretty clear Eero wasn't going to get in because of his sex. I'm not going to argue if she's more qualified than him, but it certainly wasn't decided on that. That said, I suspect Rinne did it for more political than ideological reasons, considering he took over the position of party chairman from her aggressively.

Thing is, he was implicated in a corruption scandal in Nuorisosäätiö ten years ago, where they siphoned money to Center Party to the point the organization was close to bankruptcy, so some are questioning the appropriateness of putting a guy like him in such a post. However he has managed to maintain his place in parliament in two successive terms, so some take it as sign of pardon. But we can probably agree that Kepu keeps being Kepu.

That put Greens in the #3 position, and in round two after they had grabbed Foreign Minister, Interior was by far the best portfolio left over; but given that LA was after them in the pecking order it implies they picked it over either STM or Minister of Education, which is still a bit unexpected. I feel like Ohisalo would have loved to be STM, so maybe LA picked that first, even though Andersson is rumoured to be more interested in Education. It really doesn't benefit TF that they're the top leader in the polls with a clear two percent margin when you can't even turn it to reality. If anything it'll make the coalition keep their lines in check more. We're not going to see elections for some time.

I think you mean "how much poo poo is the Green party willing to eat to keep persus out of government". I mean the basic blues were eating heapfuls last time around to keep early elections at bay. The moment this gets interesting is when the recession hits, or the 2020 budget negotiations happen and we don't have the increased employment rates. I agree with the right-wingers that a coalition program whose aim is to keep a balanced budget by increasing the employment rate is a fantasy. But where I disagree is the a priori that the budget should be kept balanced, and this is what deeply worries me. Either kepu was able to poison pill the whole thing by insisting on a balanced budget, or they give in, because the economy's going to be melting down around us. In a way, things remaining stable as they are might be the worst outcome, because it would mean no progress in the employment rate by 2020, and then if they still face bad polling kepu might throw a tantrum or go for even more iltalypsy.
