harperdc posted:Okay, that's actually a decent compromise considering the restrictions throughout the year. Good teams and drivers can stretch a stint. Last year it was effectively "pit every X laps" which was artificial and awful, especially for what should be a top class. Yes that was garbage and Im pretty certain I raged about it every hour in chat

So in this weeks P1 drama update, DPI 2.0 is off the table and GTE+ is off the table and now Hypercar is back... except only Toyota and Aston are interested, and only Toyota seems to have any ability to have a car ready in time. lol. Can't wait for next weeks update that Hypercar is dead again and now TransAm rules will be the top class or something. https://racer.com/2019/06/07/with-dpi-shelved-as-an-option-for-the-wec-has-hypercar-survived/

"There could be a bunch of OEMs from the second year forward but only two in the first season" was the line back in like October or November, so have they literally just been in The Worst Kind of Meetings for the past six months? jesus.

Is this constant nonsense due to the ACO being idiots or is the FIA to blame as well?

Basticle posted:Is this constant nonsense due to the ACO being idiots or is the FIA to blame as well? don't forget wishy-washy OEMs, they earn their blame here too. and if the people asking the question "we want to get OEMs back involved (and paying us absolute barrels of activation cash) in the top prototype class" then it's likely the ACO, with the OEMs working cross-wise at how to get there.

How to fix the WEC: 4 classes. Homologation in every class. Classes seperated by MSRP. decreasing production numbers by class. $1m sticker, 25 units $250k sticker, 2500 units $100k sticker, 5000 units $50k sticker, 10000 units. Win on sunday, sell on Monday.

I think everyone wants it to be high-tech, road relevant, and cheap... and are struggling with the fact that you can only choose two of those at a time.

Nah. 2012: Should've been Toyota, Peugeot and Audi, but Peugeot got cold feet. First year of the hybrid era. 2013: Audi and Toyota, plus two non-hybrid privateer teams 2014: Audi, Toyota and Porsche, Rebellion in "LMP1-L" 2015: The peak -- Audi, Toyota, Porsche, Nissan, 11 factory P1 cars at Le Mans, plus Rebellion and ByKolles 2016: Audi, Toyota, Porsche, Rebellion and ByKolles 2017: Toyota and Porsche, plus ByKolles, but only 6 P1s 2018: Toyota the only OEM, but there were still 10 P1s in total. We should've had more of that 4-OEM peak than just one race. But to think that is the FIA or ACO's fault is also incorrect.

To be fair, 2016 feels like a lifetime ago with how fast things have fallen apart in LMP1. I can't even believe it was only that recently that the WEC was thriving

Though, the Hypercar issue may cause it sooner than that.

Thank gently caress they got rid of the mandatory stint length for GTE this year. Tyre changing rules don't change until next season, though. For some reason I thought I'd missed the Nurb 24 but it is the weekend after Le Mans. Got some VLN to catch up on.

Goodyear to supply tires to WEC, starting with P2. If you read between the lines, I'm pretty sure this is just them changing the branding for WEC from Dunlop (which is a Goodyear brand in the west) to Goodyear. https://racer.com/2019/06/11/goodyear-to-return-to-the-wec-le-mans/
