It’s not even the cost, it’s the smoke point. Most cheap(ish) olive oils will start filling your kitchen with smoke at temperatures as low as 3501 degrees. Vegetable oil is pretty reliably stable up to around 450. Deep frying in olive oil is goofy. On an unrelated note, I miss your Calvin and Hobbes avatar. 1 Fahrenheit
