Do you folks have any feelings to share about Silversun Pickups Widow's Weeds? I listened to it over the weekend and enjoyed it. I can hear Butch Vig's work, some of the tracks feel even more Smashing Pumpkins-y than previous SSPU albums. And I dig the pair of Neon Wound into It Doesn't Matter Why, it's anxious and high strung.

It has a different feel to it than the previous stuff, but I said the same thing about Neck of the Woods when it came out and over time it became my favorite record of theirs. I loving love Songbirds, holy poo poo.

If My Bloody Valentine are a 10 and Chapterhouse are a 1, I'd put Lush at a 2. I really want to see Cocteau Twins live before I die.

I'm gonna be the unpopular guy here and say I love most things shoegaze, but I've just never liked My Bloody Valentine. Lush, though, one of my top three all-time favorite bands. I'm bummed they couldn't make the reunion work; they're one of those bands I never saw live when they were together, and then for a fleeting moment I thought I might have a chance.

I read a little about what happened in the Cocteau Twins in a book about the history of 4AD. they ain't coming back. I also learned that their daughter is an Anime person who does cosplay.

I can only think of one Chapterhouse song, kind of like the same way I can only think of one Swirlies song. And then I'll go an put on the latest Slowdive album and forget all about them.

Wow, that's basically a how-to-shoegaze video. Didn't realize distortion, reverb, and strumming with the whammy bar is all it took. I don't play guitar anymore, but when I did I had this mid-90's Washburn with a floyd rose tremolo (very springy, impossible to keep in tune) that would have been perfect for that, I think.

I've got a 7 string Ibanez with a Floyd Rose trem, and it's fantastic for shoegaze. Actually stays in tune, too!

Cool! I wonder if the pawn shop I dumped mine on still has it. That was 5 years ago, though. Eh, I don't think I'd buy it back. I'd want to switch tunings frequently and that was a massive pain on that guitar. You had to open the back panel and mess with the spring coils back there.

Well that's why I asked if this was the right thread . Listening to those songs they're pretty good but not quite the same kind of music I was thinking of. I like the darker, "gothier" stuff I guess you might say? I'm bad with band names in general, I just listen to radio playlists and stuff. I was kinda hear looking for recs on actual stuff to listen to. i miss Gothic Paradise Radio.
