Gave up at 2/8, a twitter thread is a really poo poo way to post a comic.

It was ok but yeah navigating a mobile twitter page comic that posts it in reverse order by groups of 4 kinda ruined the Junji vibe before the comic could show it. Face All Red is great if you like that stuff: https://emcarroll.com/comics/faceallred/01.html

Drugs I understand, and it's safe to assume Garfield hosed that doll. But gambling? That's a bit of reach, imo.

You're thinking US Acres, which was a different Jim Davis property that would just show up during Garfield And Friends but was continuity wise unrelated.

I'm guessing that part's because Jim Davis himself grew up on a farm. One of these days I need to post some Footrot Flats in here, a New Zealand comic strip about a dog (known as The Dog) and his farmer. It's got really nice art.

But Murray Ball, (the creator), turned out to be a miserable misogynist in his old age, and wrote at least one comic book about how feminism and/or PC culture is ruining the world etc.

I'm not lawyer but I think in either case it falls under fair use as America has very strong protections for comedy. Since it's clearly a joke and Jim Davis wasn't trying to claim he owned Barbie or anything related it doesn't count as infringement of any sort. It's clearly just mentioning Barbie because she's instantly recognizable to basically everybody in America.

You don't want to be accused of product placement by people who read newspaper funnies.
