Just in case anyone missed this, it's built on a Lego Bionicle frame. The Lego purist in me is torn between being mad at that person painting/gluing Lego, and being indifferent because I think Bionicle sucked.

I'm a huge Lego purist too and I'm just pleased someone found something Bionicle is good for, even if it's just an ugly Tau proxy.

You know, I've actually seen some pretty impressive stuff done with Bionicle, however it's still mecha which is what Bioncle essentially was in the first place. You can't really say that about any other kind of Lego.

He always has too. He's always been super sensory with his feet, picking up objects with his toes, holding things between them while drinking a bottle, and of course experiencing objects by stepping on them. No idea if this is normal or not or if him being year of the monkey actually means something.

Bionicle is a weird relic from the bad period of Lego where they were losing money like crazy and mismanaging virtually everything. It's literally referred to as "The Decline" on wikipedia and for good reason. Very intense marketing from around their release means that anybody who was around 7-12 years old at that time probably has intense nostalgia for the series. It's kept it alive for quite a while, but it's never been popular outside of that nostalgic group. Not that nostalgia makes anything bad, I'm a big Lego nerd because I huff pure nostalgia on a regular basis. But since there's no nostalgia for us it certainly doesn't appeal to older or even newer Lego fans. The complete flop of a reboot kind of cements that. Maybe, maybe not, I just think it's kind of telling that one of the major reasons the reboot flopped was that fans thought the lore wasn't good enough. For their Lego dolls.

Funnily enough Bionicle is one of the things that saved Lego during that period because they were so popular and prevented them from going bankrupt. If it weren't for Bionicle and Star Wars then Lego most likely wouldn't still be around. It was all the other lovely juniorised themes full of super specialised parts that got them in that trouble in the first place, along with really bizarre decisions like rebranding Duplo as 'Explore' and literally selling some sets at a loss because the parts were so expensive to manufacture.
