This reminds me of the feud between Jimmy Valiant and Pez Whatley, which started when Valiant said Whatley was a great black pro wrestler, and Whatley (justifiably) took offense to Valiant qualifying his statement in that way. Keep in mind also that, in this feud, Valiant was the innocent babyface who didn't understand why his friend attacked him, while Whatley (now calling himself "Shaska Whatley") was the dastardly heel.
