I question the intelligence of a bunch of druggies whose immediate response upon seeing the phrase "eyeball it" in regards to measurements, was to assume it meant to inject the drug directly into the eye.

I apparently had a great-uncle (never met him, he died before I was born) who passed out drunk on a park bench in exactly the wrong way and woke up with no feeling in his left arm. It never came back. For the rest of his life he had totally normal function in it—no loss of muscle strength or movement or anything—except he had to be looking at it to see what it was doing.

It was not good advice.

Thing is even “going to rehab” isn’t necessarily good advice given how little the industry is regulated and how much of it is borderline scammy. Although it is still better advice than telling them to do more drugs.

Yeah I saw that Last Week Tonight episode too. There are a lot of good ways to get clean through the system that your company or state will hold your hand throughout. Well, there are where I live. Have to want it and then be reminded of why you wanted it by other people who want it still. Shiatsu, hot detox and acupuncture are great but there really needs to be a support structure that doesn't consist of the bored and overqualified. hot take: go to a Scientology center when you're loaded and ask to get in to their detox, you either get to dig a hole in the desert or they'll dig one for you

I know the rehab industry is garbage in a lot of places, but I’m pretty sure even the worst rehab is a step up from having no support network whatsoever (because your previous network all got killed by the drugs you want to kick).

TCC isn't actually as bad as its reputation. The problem is, like any other sub-forum on here, there are always a couple of absolute morons in a thread who no amount of logic, anecdotes, pleading, or anything else will get through to them. (See the bitcoin thread in GBS recently for a good example of this) The consequences of one of these idiots outside TCC is typically just bad posts and schadenfreude, but in TCC they can often be horrific and even fatal. The recovery thread in TCC is excellent and has a great community of goons supporting each other in long term sobriety using a variety of methods. The other threads, more often than not, have good advice and safety tips. There are thousands of goons though and in any population you get idiots. Most of them would be doing the same thing with or without TCC so I do actually believe it's done more good than harm on balance.
