Each vision center is actually an independent doctor’s office. Not all of them do C&P exams.

It’s not the VA having you do screwy things. It’s the cheap contractor hired to send you to private doctors that just chooses the first available regardless of distance.

DTS voucher for last month's AT routed successfully through my NOSC, then was rejected by wherever it goes after that for payment, SABRS maybe? Rejection email I got just said "Insufficient Funds at Appropriation Level / Living Lapsed Appropriation".

All I could get outta the NOSC travel po over the phone was "DTS is having issues" and confirmed that yes, I'm gonna have to come out of pocket 3 grand to cover my travel card balance due in 10 days if I don't want late fees or interest charges.

DTS travel cards are the brainchild of people who wanted money and already had enough money to bribe the system to their favor. The whole thing is a way to bilk the military on credit card fees and interest.

And GTC is the biggest crock of poo poo since the VA. I cannot believe there isn't a fraud/waste/abuse racket to be uncovered there given the government's ability to obligate funds on the card without any obligation to pay them back and leave the individual on the hook for them.

I’ve been outta Fed service for a year plus and they just sent me a new travel card- I hadn’t used it since 2015; it’s like $800 a year for the gubbmt just to maintain acct with Citibank

I had gotten off active duty in 2006

When I returned to fed service with the navy in 2011 my email was still active

I sent a lot of read receipts for fun

Nmci charges per acct per year too

Is refusing the credit check and issuance of a GTC still a NJPable offence or do they now just override all your finantial rights and issue one in your name whether you want it or not?

Also is refusing the GTC by saying your religion is against accepting any line of credit realistic.

I'm not pleased about having to do it, but I can come up with 3k to pay off the card for now without putting a strain on day to day finances.

Is there a realistically nonzero chance that I pay this and then DTS never unfucks the problem and I never get paid the 3k for expenses + 2k per diem from my completed orders?

It happened to me to the tune of 4K.

Basically they put me in a hotel for 4 months but didn’t tell me it was up to me to negotiate a lower rate when they reduced me housing to 75% after 30 days. So at the end they calculated it up and hosed me over really good. Worse part was I didn’t even realize that since I moved to government lodging half way through they shouldn’t have reduced my rate.

Seriously, shut the fuck up.

:dukedog:
I dodged getting a GTC for as long as I could, but got stuck doing the paperwork for one during some bullshit. They told us that we couldn't use the barracks as a billing address for it, and to use someone we knew with a real address, which means the card would also be sent to that address. Since I don't trust people in the military, I sent it to my mom who lived halfway across the country. Took her a few months to remember to tell me she got it and then whoops it got lost in the mail when she finally sent it to me. Just kept doing what worked whenever I had to travel: made them pay for it up front because they couldn't order me to.

Ultimately, flat rate per diem was a great idea, but they failed to communicate to everybody how it actually worked. I had to do a ton of research because none of our PSs really understood and it wasn't until the civilian at SWOS that anybody even seemed to have heard about it.

Flat rate was a legit great way to scam tons of money on long-term. I see it from a different side, but my experience leads me to believe it’s less a lack of education on it and more a bunch of crybaby civil servants that don’t want to make their arrangements.

Let’s be real clear, the only reason that flat rate went away was the 2014 change that made it apply to employees. Active duty bitching doesn’t have poo poo on AFGE/IFPTE and definitely doesn’t move the rock at DTMO.

Oh are long term orders no longer flat rate? I made a good amount of money on it last year and it made up for everything that went wrong fiscally with the navy the prior years.

Long term per diem rates ended 13 Aug 2018.

For whoever asked: you have been able to refuse the credit check for years, the only thing that happens is you get the restricted card vs the normal one.

Congrats on picking a MOB instead of letting Big Navy give you a spin of the roulette. Always great to get reservists out to sea. Coming back from that as an ESWS qualified and perhaps even EAWS (if the UAV det is allowed to run it) will give you nice shiny things to wear for the rest of your career. How long is your time aboard? Also, it is hard to do but if you can get some I-stops (intermediate stops) between ECRC (coming on active duty) and the ship for training that should help you out.

Neat ship, enjoy having a full stateroom as an IT2 lol

Wouldn't want to ride on it in anything higher than sea state 3 though.

Highest that I've ever been in that I know of was sea state 9 (might have been higher, wasn't driving, didn't care) on the carrier, and waves were breaking over the flight deck and the ship was pitching really bad, which is remarkable for a carrier. I'd have hated to be on one of our escorts during that.

Haha they arent supposed to fight at all, and it seems like the littoral idea was more or less dropped. The best use for them at this point is throwing half of them in the gulf to run into mines and have the other half to shoot at drug runners and pirates.

They cant even act as decent Intel ships because the comm suite is gutted in the name of speed, and the waterjets are noisy as hell.

But guess what? We're going to keep sending them the Navies way and the Navys going to keep accepting them!
