Has anyone ever had to deal with CSC compliance framework garbage? I may be facing down the specter of having a jumpbox for any and all admin actions, and I'm hoping we can do something that doesn't require setting up deny RDP perms to every single box in our environment save for the jumpbox.

My boss just randomly walked up to me and said, you should break something, I'm bored. About 10 seconds later, something breaks. He laughed at me and went out for a smoke. He used his supervisor privilege to get out of the sacred "you call it, you fix it" house rule. I won't forget this transgression The outage was for black screen with audio on the playboy channel, so I put it up on the department iPad, cranked the volume, and put it on his desk while he was out. I'm not mature enough for this job.

We had to do the same thing for PCI compliance at my last job. Domain I was on was not the PCI domain, had to use a jumpbox in the PCI domain with 2FA, and then go from there to other systems either via RDP or remote PS stuff; we also installed pretty much every RSAT tool we could on the jumpbox.

I think I worked at a place like this. Adult material, so almost everyone is skirting the 'no porn at work' rules when they're not working with it on the clock. Rule skirting creeps up on you. Pranks like yours did happen.

If you interview for a job, let's say web dev/SEO and sysadmin poo poo, and your future boss says, "I also write illustrated sensual massage manuals, so hopefully you're okay with stuff like that being around,"

My city has a Respected Local Small Business Man named “Safari Joe” who owns a wildlife sanctuary and various associated enterprises, and was in some legal hot water a few years ago for giving some underage girls “””athletic massages””” involving the kneading of the breasts. The charges were dropped because he maintained that the breast massage was an important part of his extremely legitimate athletic massage routine. He now owns the largest water park in town, “Safari Joe’s H2O.” (Not to be confused with Joe Exotic, another local wildlife character who is currently in jail for attempting to hire a hitman to murder a rival wildlife sanctuary operator who accused him [accurately] of animal abuse. The Oklahoma wildlife scene is something else.)

There's been at least 3 occurrences of this when I worked there. Manager emailing you to get a certain filename from the server image upload cache on the suspicion that it was kiddie porn. I always forwarded that poo poo sight unseen, and scrubbed it from my HDD afterwards. Dirt Road Junglist posted:If you interview for a job, let's say web dev/SEO and sysadmin poo poo, and your future boss says, "I also write illustrated sensual massage manuals, so hopefully you're okay with stuff like that being around," The job interview from this job for me started out as 'oh they run dating websites' "so like OkCupid? neat." '(no answer from recruiter)', and halfway through the first interview they dropped the 'oh, we work with adult material' bombshell. Funny enough, those three years were some of the most fun work environment I'd ever had. Had to quit because I was moving, but it was great fun. Constantly tiptoeing the edge of the law eats at you, though.

On the other hand, he talked about "uneven desks" and the problem with having to suddenly stand up and go somewhere with an office full of attractive female co-workers and being sure that he was going to get fired any minute now for obviously not being desensitised to the environment.

I recognize that. A few guys at our place had to screen adult content for promotions, which literally meant they watched hardcore pornography every day, all day. I was just a code monkey. There was some art in the lobby with boobies, I saw a pornstar at the coffee machine once, but mostly I dealt with code.

I love experiments like that. I went spelunking into my old Youtube favorites and unearthed this amazing gem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3atmWmWCwlw (I'm sorry it's by McAfee.) And yes, one of my friends in marketing was ecstatic that the lander that got the most clickthroughs was just a huge JOIN NOW button in front of a fullscreen gif of bouncing boobies. It did even better than the top-down selfie of a very young topless girl.

A ticket came in, but I couldn't see it because my permissions to the ticketing system have been removed. Guessing someone with central IT finally saw that I "left" my position with them a month ago (to move to a different college within the university) and terminated my access. It's cool, didn't want to do any work today anyway.
