lol that's not too surprising though. i worked at a place that sold research analytics, and maybe half the articles we tracked had metrics. that's when the publisher would let us use their metrics, which mostly they didn't cause ~my precious data~ also the abstract is a separate download and i really didn't want to dig in enough to figure out if they rolled that into the download stats as well or what. generally youd expect abstract views >> full text views/downloads

Like, even the bereuacrats we were working for definitely did not read the whole thing and I think maybe 2 members of the team writing the drat thing actually read anything besides their own contributions. Really glad I went through all that to get ivory tower credentials I've never used and half my former classmates think I had some sort of personal crisis/breakdown and joined Antifa or some poo poo because I reject market urbanism and the international lending system.

I lived in Massachusetts for a while and the level of casual, open racism is just mind boggling. I don't necessarily think people in Boston are the most racist (but boy howdy are they racist), it's just a weird outgrowth of how the overall culture of the area takes great pride in not filtering anything. I had total strangers share incredibly personal and/or horrifying things with me for no reason, and was asked incredibly personal and/or horrifying things by strangers on a regular basis. It's like New York, but if everyone is in everyone else's business like it's a small town. It's really hard to describe to folks who haven't lived there.

My wife is from Detroit and she took me to see the giant flower pots they put in the road to block outgoing traffic from Detroit (read: black people) from getting to the farmer's market while still allowing traffic to leave. I've seen less explicit racism in the deep south.
