We know of at least one instance where the death penalty was not imposed (Frank Sahwit) so probably any case with mitigating circumstances we can assume they're still alive. Dee Vasquez and Acro for example.

I'd say Acro probably can't given attempting to murder someone but hitting the wrong person is murder + attempted murder, in particular of a minor. That's probably too grave to save him from extenuating circumstances.

Frank Dihdit Sahwit didn't premeditate his crime, did he? What's Japan (and by extension Japanifornia) threshold for the death penalty?

Japan's death penalty threshold is usually when there's multiple murders involved, though a particularly heinous single murder can push you over the edge.

I mean the Gramarye Troupe kept on trucking along after one of their members almost died trying a trick and another (apparently but not really) died trying another trick, but then again Magnifi was enough of an rear end in a top hat to not let nearly killing half his gang slow him down.

I'm just going off of the way they leave it at the end of the case which has everyone super sympathetic to him for some reason.

I mean, all Acro did was attempt to murder a developmentally challenged teenager in order to avenge his pedophile brother who put himself in a coma, and when he ended up murdering his surrogate father who he meant no harm outside of murdering his only child, he did the reasonable thing and tried to frame an unrelated third party who happened to be the circus’ main source of income, despite being under no suspicion and having no need for someone else to take the fall.

I dare you to name a single character more sympathetic than Ken Dingling.

For those curious I'm still on case 5, I just found the rotating wall in the fireplace.

tbh I've softened a bit on the first bit because by AA6 he's at least in frequent communication with Thalassa and the decision to tell or not tell them is something he's working with her on
