Something like the Iran Deal, but geared toward denuclearization, would be a start. You know, if we hadn't thrown away any good will we had in the diplomatic community by pulling out of said Iran Deal.

And also if the US hadn't had something pretty similar to the Iran deal in the '94 Agreed Framework and then not held up our end of the deal.

Basically, the usual White House Press Corps is detecting even more bullshit in the air than usual, so there's still a lot of digging going on. Official WH spokesman excuses are even worse than normal, so something is odd.

Yeah, we ultimately can't be trusted because the moment a Republican President gets elected they'll just arbitrarily break any treaties, MOAs, or alliances on a whim.

All this has done is solidify the rule of the Kim family for another generation. It's a loving masterstroke by the North Koreans and a strategic failure of immense importance for the US.

The US' most faithful allies in Asia are now under threat of National Death. It was bad enough when Seoul was under the guns of the NK military but now the SK and Japanese governments are being told to live with the threat of nuclear attack. I don't see that going very well.

we've been twerked up for korean war round two for over half a century, NK has nukes and they're backed up by China. We have no win condition. Additionally them being on constant war footing empowers their military to keep the authoritarian state going.

Currently china is their only ally by default. Easing the gently caress back and coming off as the good guys might result in them getting tired of China's hand up their rear end like the puppet state they currently are

A. I doubt it.
B. Who cares if they get tired of China. In a hypothetical scenario where they try to cozy up to the US instead China would just overthrow them. Possibly even overtly.

the only happy ending for rest of the world wrt NK is China offing Kim during some visit and simultaneously telling the generals "You'll be fine we're just going to slowly unroll this over the next 30 years". thats pretty much the only scenario that doesnt end with SK eating a nuke

The nukes are for us, IMO. They have enough artillery to turbofuck Seoul and have had them for decades. Like yeah, maybe if poo poo went down they'd toss a nuke across the border as a gently caress you if SK or us tried to head north, but I would bet the nukes are mostly meant to be long range (CONUS) or medium range (Japan, Guam).

Casimir Radon

I've heard the whole Sea of Fire thing is pretty exaggerated. But even a little bit of artillery could be really bad because of how dense Seoul is.

I'm guessing they realized it was better to let it go than to have the news cycle saturated with emails from that Republican consultant who specifically designed the question to undercount non-white communities.

Who am I kidding, that would presume a level of second order thinking that this administration isn't capable of.
