It's mostly speculation at this point but folks are saying that the new direction with a slower, muted drumbeat and St. Vincent influenced sound is probably what did it. She stayed to help finish the album, but during this live performance you see she's not into it.

Compare this to anything off of The Woods or One Beat, or hell even Dig Me Out, the album where she joined the band. Carrie and Corin didn't start the band with her, but by their own admission Janet was the missing piece.

Whoever replaces Janet will have their work cut out for them with the back catalogue, that's for sure.

So many bands today stick to a core of songs and just slightly mix them up or even play the exact same set every single night. Even if that wasn't their thing before it wouldn't be hard to say "Yeah learn these 25 songs, we will play 20 a night with a slight mix up".

Last I knew, they were touring with MGMT. I was lucky enough to catch them play a one-off at the Black Cat in DC in May when MGMT must have had a night off or something.

I was surprised to see Stella credited as the drummer on Cate Le Bon's last two records. She's probably doing studio stuff for other artists too? And they're each a couple of years old, but I still need to listen to Jenny Lee's and Theresa Wayman's solo efforts

I barely post in this thread but Spotify has thrown me a few tracks from a relatively unknown psychedelic rock band called Psychedelic Porn Crumpets that have been mind blowing. The sound follows in the footsteps of King Gizzard in a lot of ways, though far more diverse in sound (that being said I haven't given their newest output a good listen). It's hard to pick a standout, High Visceral Pt 1 and And Now For The Watchamacallit are both excellent all the way though.

Their music videos are great too:

Just saw Charly Bliss on a whim after seeing this thread talking about how good they are live and holy poo poo y’all did not steer me wrong. Eva Hendricks has so much contagious energy and enthusiasm, and she and the rest of the band are super tight performers. I yelled for Steal My Sunshine when they were coming on for the encore but she kind of chuckled and said “oh, no” into the mic and then they played Mr. Brightside instead.

Anyway, go see them. They’re great. If you’re kinda iffy on the new album like I was, the new songs have more energy and dynamics live. Plenty of Guppy stuff too.

Yeah its solid and full of amusing lyrics and turns of ohrases. Desperatly sad Honky Tonk and Indie Pop but has a few weirdly relaxing almost cutesy songs like the one about snow in NY or his late mother.

Also the last song is about incel culture according to an interview, lol. " if nobodies fond of loving me maybe nobodies loving fond of me"
