Maybe we can give Warren a chance to fix the plan before we throw her to the wolves?

Correct about what? A 10% reduction in rents is a worthwhile goal and I stand by that.
See, this is what makes you wrong. "10% reduction in rents" is not a goal, it is a headline designed to exploit cognitive biases. Whose rents? When? For how long? Where? Achieved how? If you see "10% reduction in rents" you should be thinking "What in the gently caress does that even mean?" not "Oh that idea makes me warm and fuzzy inside, I am immediately more receptive to whatever actual policy follows it".

BOOP

Like if you actually wanted to address affordable housing directly you could just... build public housing. Not some hamstrung "one public unit per private unit that leaves the market intact" plan but building housing to reduce the costs in the region. If that is a bridge to far and not wonky enough you could put limits on how many units an individual or organization can own in a market and punish price fixing collusion with other landlords with confiscation of property. Both of these would be a direct assault against those with power though so we'd better just move around some numbers on a spreadsheet that will do gently caress all.

Edit

Oh also make AirBnB illegal.

Maybe you should read the posts where i actually said what I think about the policy rather than acting like I'm over here with my liberal loving pom poms out calling it the best white paper I've ever seen. Maybe you should talk about the actual (inadequate) content of the proposal, like Main Paineframe, instead of going into a god drat Smug Soliloquy where you explain the whole world to my poor, misguided capitalist naif self.

If someone just takes the most absurd Full Communism Now position and makes useless posts about how rent should be like, one hundred pecerent lower, maaaan! it's not worthy of your brilliant, beneficent offerings, but if I say "this proposal from my second-preference candidate doesn't really do much of anything except give money to developers," but decline to use it as a launching pad to rant about how Warren and liberalism are terrible in every sense, I'm subject to this ridiculous condescension.

Please.
So, even what you thought the plan was, is a bad plan. Even a ten percent reduction of current rents, even ignoring inflation in that 10%, is not a great plan.

Having said that, even if it's disappointing that you thought an entirely different bad plan, was a good plan, at least you think the actual plan, which is a bad plan, is a bad plan. That's encouraging. Moreover I will give you credit for changing your mind when the facts change - unironically good for you. Now, having said that, I hope - though I do not expect - that you've learned something and will be better able to complete the pattern next time Liz goes to set up the football for you. And next time before I go and make fun of your pom poms or whatever I will try to remind you first "hey you know she's just going to yank that football, right?" because it turns out you might be the sort who will listen to that 10% of the time.

I keep seeing these articles about how Pete Buttigieg is raising tons of money. Where is it coming from--who is this guys base? I have yet to meet someone is who is excited about his candidacy. His political career is, he was mayor of a town I've never heard is and his claim to fame is he let his cops shoot a black guy. What is going on!

Just to clarify even further:

Warren's plan does 2 things:
- Increases funding for the National Housing Trust Fund (as an aside, the national housing trust fund was created in 2016, but the first person to propose the creation of one in the House was one Bernard Sanders, back in 2001, for the folks who like to say that Bernie has no accomplishments).
- Pays for that by increasing the estate tax, which tops out at 65%.

It's not anything harmful. It just falls way short of what Bernie has proposed:

https://amp.greenvilleonline.com/amp/3520397002

- Increasing the budget for the National Housing Trust Fund (like Warren's plan)
- Incluzionary zoning
- Federal rent control

Oh, and Bernie's estate tax bill tops out at 77%.

I doubt he's raising that kind of money now. He had a media hype moment a few months back in this fundraising cycle where he looked ready to break out, and probably got a lot of rich people money then. Kamala's getting that money now (again).

I was on vacation in Provincetown, MA this week (and so was Mayor Pete!) and unsurprisingly a lot of fans there. With shirts that say PETE or just his face. There's this little ice cream place with a combo of pro Pete pictures/tweets/comics and pitbull rescue pics/memes. It was strange but the ice cream was good. His fans skew way younger. The older gays seem to like Kamala. I saw some Bernie shirts too. Not a single Warren sign or shirt, which is kind of weird in a highly politicized area of her own state.

His base is that one younger boss you had* who despite having a salary 5-8x larger than your department's average would routinely block your raises or any needed equipment upgrades due to "the budget". This boss is also directly responsible for egregious environmental and safety violations, likes to talk in hushed tones about how s/he likes to give "those people" a chance when referring to hiring your one black coworker 3 years ago, and also helped organize the company's 5k run for cancer. He, or she, has also voted democrat his or her entire life, talks sometimes about having a gay roommate back in their Rice University days, and is possibly very concerned about national security**.

Like there's a lot you can do housing wise at the federal level and you can use monetary incentives to get the states to suck it up and match federal laws or implement things, but Warren's plan is really bad. If anything she's just showing that she'd probably function best as secretary of the treasury instead of being president so she can focus on her pet project of dunking on banks and tech monopolies.
