Like if you actually wanted to address affordable housing directly you could just... build public housing. Not some hamstrung "one public unit per private unit that leaves the market intact" plan but building housing to reduce the costs in the region. If that is a bridge to far and not wonky enough you could put limits on how many units an individual or organization can own in a market and punish price fixing collusion with other landlords with confiscation of property. Both of these would be a direct assault against those with power though so we'd better just move around some numbers on a spreadsheet that will do gently caress all. Edit Oh also make AirBnB illegal. Mellow Seas posted:Maybe you should read the posts where i actually said what I think about the policy rather than acting like I'm over here with my liberal loving pom poms out calling it the best white paper I've ever seen. Maybe you should talk about the actual (inadequate) content of the proposal, like Main Paineframe, instead of going into a god drat Smug Soliloquy where you explain the whole world to my poor, misguided capitalist naif self. Having said that, even if it's disappointing that you thought an entirely different bad plan, was a good plan, at least you think the actual plan, which is a bad plan, is a bad plan. That's encouraging. Moreover I will give you credit for changing your mind when the facts change - unironically good for you. Now, having said that, I hope - though I do not expect - that you've learned something and will be better able to complete the pattern next time Liz goes to set up the football for you. And next time before I go and make fun of your pom poms or whatever I will try to remind you first "hey you know she's just going to yank that football, right?" because it turns out you might be the sort who will listen to that 10% of the time.

Just to clarify even further: Warren's plan does 2 things: - Increases funding for the National Housing Trust Fund (as an aside, the national housing trust fund was created in 2016, but the first person to propose the creation of one in the House was one Bernard Sanders, back in 2001, for the folks who like to say that Bernie has no accomplishments). - Pays for that by increasing the estate tax, which tops out at 65%. It's not anything harmful. It just falls way short of what Bernie has proposed: https://amp.greenvilleonline.com/amp/3520397002 - Increasing the budget for the National Housing Trust Fund (like Warren's plan) - Incluzionary zoning - Federal rent control Oh, and Bernie's estate tax bill tops out at 77%.

I was on vacation in Provincetown, MA this week (and so was Mayor Pete!) and unsurprisingly a lot of fans there. With shirts that say PETE or just his face. There's this little ice cream place with a combo of pro Pete pictures/tweets/comics and pitbull rescue pics/memes. It was strange but the ice cream was good. His fans skew way younger. The older gays seem to like Kamala. I saw some Bernie shirts too. Not a single Warren sign or shirt, which is kind of weird in a highly politicized area of her own state.

Yes, I was. I regret it," Biden. Like there's a lot you can do housing wise at the federal level and you can use monetary incentives to get the states to suck it up and match federal laws or implement things, but Warren's plan is really bad. If anything she's just showing that she'd probably function best as secretary of the treasury instead of being president so she can focus on her pet project of dunking on banks and tech monopolies.
