Apparently it was actually a stretch goal for the Star Power Patreon. ... Which never got reached. So, literally no one wanted it, but he decided to do it anyway.

Well, poo poo, Cucumber Quest is getting hit by the Hiatus/Format Change stick. It's the usual. Things in her life are changing, doesn't have the time/energy to keep up (updates have been very sporadic for quite a while now), etc. She doesn't seem to mention having another gig anywhere, so illustration may not be her Real Job. Gigi posted:I’ll get right to the point: I can’t continue working on CQ as is. I don’t want to ramble about the details, but things are changing in my life, and I just don’t have the time or energy to keep this webcomic as my number-one priority going forward. This is exactly what happened to Poppy Opossum, and we've seen how that turned out. I'm going to guess Gigi isn't going to spend her art time drawing for a quasi-secret porn Patreon/Twitter, though.

She's writing the new She-Ra comic (but not illustrating), so she's definitely working in the industry.

this feels loving surreal, as the pinstripe and catling power hour doing live roasts of dominic deegan* was one of the things that brought me to SA in the first place *and briefly my own old comic but mostly dominic deegan

I was wondering what the creator of Necropolis is up to these days, so I found his twitter, and found something evergreen: https://twitter.com/jakewyattriot/status/1146583088194916352 (It seems like he's like, parenting and stuff too.)

Fangz posted:Her art is fine? It's like if she wasn't sure if she wanted to draw a hand or a foot and drew both. And if this scene is supposed to be set in a Alice in Wonderland type fantasy world where things randomly change size, then it's good art, but otherwise it's really not. And this face looks like a lovecraftian Deep One. It's almost as if she had an iron rod flung through her brain like Phineas P. Gage and suddenly was unable to draw well. Cf. her earlier stuff: (though to be fair that thing in the lower left corner is a bit threatening)

The fact that you're having to cherry-pick some of the very first stuff she did years ago, or stuff from the era when the comic had obviously ceased to be a top priority, is pretty telling. Ostertag is pretty obviously capable of creating good art. I tried to hire her myself once for some RPG work, but she was well out of my price range.

I didn't cherry-pick anything, just used the start of the last chapter I had posted earlier and the first page of the comic. What did you try to pay her? Experience points or bottle caps? And would you mind posting some of the good art you were talking about?

The bizarre meltdowns people have over everything to do with SFP are a little weird to me. It was a good webcomic that became a pretty bad one, big deal. it's hardly on the level of CAD or dominic deegan or whatever.

How many people do you stalk?

Endtown has played around with alternate realities and in the latest arc the story has hinted at metatextual stuff and now it's coming to a head with a possible multiversal metatextual apocalypse. Also I don't remember if I posted this or not but I checked out A Ghost Story and it is good. The characterization is strong and the designs of each supernatural creature is inspired by usually very cute too.

The real reason for SFP's decline in quality was its writing, which Ostertag wasn't responsible for. The incredibly tiny cups were funny, though.

Ah yes, the hand and the face, the two easiest parts of the human body to draw. If you're caught drawing one incorrectly they blacklist you from the industry, they're just that easy to do.

It even ends in literally a panel by panel comic with his signature at the bottom and everything. It's called "A Hero's Fate" if you feel like looking it up.
