It's a rebadged HP with Samsung software shoved on top of it. You go to HP.com FROM Samsung.com in order to get the right combination of drivers and software. It took over 30 minutes to set up due to all of the horseshit. Do. Not. Buy.

That wasn't the case until (relatively) recently. I had a Samsung laser, and it's very much all-Samsung. I gave it to my parents several years ago.

I think I got it in 2010 or 2011. Still going with just toner, but it's starting to jam a bit when trying to pick up paper from the tray. You can order a "service kit" that replaces all the rollers, but seeing as I paid $60 (shipped) for it... and the service kit costs more than another printer, well.... yeah. They're getting a Bro pretty soon.

Their/my Samsung is really bad about randomly losing WiFi settings. I gave up and had them plug it into mom's PC (which is on 24/7) via USB. Dad's PC and laptop both see it fine, since it's shared. Good 'nuff.

Right, here's a challenge for you. Suspect Kastein might get this one.

My dad's sorting out the steering system on his Wolseley (1935 Hornet Special). The nut that holds the wheel on seems to be 7/8" and 20 TPI, which smells an awful lot like UNEF to me - however, trying to source a cheapish replacement nut is proving awkward.

I think the steering wheel nuts on some American trucks (as in tractor units) are this thread... but also, so are the pinion nuts on a number of Dana axles. I did try getting him a pinion nut for a Jeep, but what he got seems to be 14 TPI - suspect perhaps it's from a rear axle rather than a front axle or something like that?

So, anyway: Where am I likely to find a 7/8" 20 TPI nut (or half nut/jam nut, which may work better for him), in such a way as to be readily available in the UK cheap? So a "serviceable" component on a car sold here? I think the Jeep part number 4720895AB is a good place for him to start.

Seems like you might be onto it with that, and that seems to be a pretty common part. Rockauto lists the USA Gear 33146 as compatible, and lists applications for it including the YJ, TJ, and JK Wranglers, the Liberty, and the XJ Cherokee. I'm fairly certain you guys got the Liberty and Cherokee in significant numbers.

Edit: https://dirtyhookerdiesel.com/i-153...1-8-socket.html has some more detail to the applications, looks like a lot of Dana 30 front axles and Dana 35 rear axles. So WJ Grand Cherokees would also work, as long as it's the 4.0 and not the 4.7.

What's concerning is my blood pressure has gone into the toilet - I can't get my systolic to break 100 easily, and I feel lethargic as gently caress. Everything just feels heavy, including lifting my arm, and I get lightheaded if I go from, say, stocking a lower shelf to standing up. BP has generally been around 90/55 when I check it at work lately, and the Omron I have at home shows similar numbers unless I drink (it shows 110/63 right now, which is a healthy BP, but that's after a few drinks - alcohol always brings my BP up a bit).

I've been on two BP medications for several years... the highest dose of one (an ACE inhibitor) and a lowish (but not lowest) dose of another (beta blocker). I'm gonna try cutting the beta blocker in half to take half the dose (it's not extended release, you can stop freaking out) and see what happens, but I definitely need to talk to my doctor as well. I'm also running into low blood sugar issues if I stick to my regular Wilford Brimley meds - I've been able to get around it by eliminating one med for my first meal of the day (and when I check my sugar when we take our lunch break, it's still borderline low - generally in the 60s - and that's usually with a sugar free Red Bull thrown into the mix - but not in the 30s or 40s like it was if I took both meds before work).

Your meds are too strong. I ran into a brick wall losing weight cause suddenly my BP meds were too strong. Ended up injuring myself and put the weight back on. It’s tough. Was just starting to hit that point again and I blew out the bottom bracket of my bicycle. Put it down a week and soon as I got it back I blew a tire riding to work, putting it down another week. It’s back together this week but I’m not working and thus not commuting and thus not riding. I’ve actually got two days of driving starting tomorrow so I’m sure my health will be in the absolute toilet by the time I start work on the gamblewagon Thursday. I’ll probably injure myself again.

Just got back from the first big road trip with my 97 Outback (Dave) this weekend to Pittsburgh. For people that don't read my thread I just did a bunch of maintenance stuff before I left. Obviously oil then trans filter, fuel filter, plug wires, 02 sensor, TPS and MAF. I'm not sure which thing or if it was the total package but I got 28 and 30mpg which is mind blowing since it also turned over to 215k and the whole trip is hills with the AC on the entire time with an automatic. I just can't believe how good the mileage was since I've never got better than 23 before this. The last like 40 miles into Pittsburgh was a rural highway with stop lights too. Best I ever got with the 99 Forester was 27 and that was a 5 speed with less than 200k.

I stopped keeping track but I'm pretty certain Im still under $2k into another wayward Subaru that ends up with me and turns out to be a great machine. I would never believe someone that told me they got 30mpg with an ancient EJ25 and automatic if I didn't see it for myself. Crazy

Coincidentally, I just bought and drove a 2003 Outback H6 3.0 from Mesa, Arizona to Dallas, TX, with wife and teenager in tow. Full car and trip report here, but the short version is: it drove nice, needs struts and at least one bushing, and possibly springs. Engine didn't skip a beat. It's in fantastic shape for a 16 year old car with 180K miles from Arizona. I got 21.9 on my first tank (that I put in. morethanjake kindly left me a full tank to start with,) then 24.4, 23.0, and 17.3 on the last half-tank fill up (I was hammering it going around some fools on state roads out in the New Mexico wilderness.) Again, this is with the 3L H6, and an automatic.
I am really happy with this car, particularly considering the Goon deal that I got from morethanjake. Worth it even with flight, hotel, and gas (some of which is offset by considering it a mini-vacation for us.) Mind you, I don't think my daughter will ever allow herself to go on a long car trip again...
So, any good Subie/Outback resources out there, or are they all trash and I need to just go join the Flannel thread? Preferred sources for parts?

Printer chat: we have a little HP Laserjet that we've had for 5 years or so, and it just keeps on chugging along with the limited prints we really do. I bought a Canon 7-color photo inkjet from Woot or Meh or something last year, because it was like $30, but it's still in the box. I refuse to take it out until I actually need it. Right now, we can both do color laser at work, for business color stuff.

The D44 (at least on the WJ) is a 7/8-14, instead of a 7/8-20. If 7/8-14 works for you, the pitman arm nut from just about any 70s-on US-made vehicle with a steering box is probably a good fit.

The Hyundai 2.0T is a turd that doesn't perform, doesn't get good gas mileage, and is unreliable. There's a big design flaw where the rod bearings don't get enough oil, causing the engine to seize up. H/K initially claimed that these problems were caused by a manufacturing flaw for early models with this engine. Then H/K quietly extended the warranty for vehicles up to 2018 with this engine. The turbo engines are far more failure-prone; IIRC it's a 4:1 ratio for engine failures between turbo and N/A.

Kia specifically will cover this issue for the lifetime of the vehicle, but I don’t think the Sportage is so good to deal with it in the first place.

I've put a little under 4000 miles on rentals in the US and Korea, so my experiences with them are not anywhere close to long term ownership. I found the seats were not the most comfortable for long journeys. Fuel mileage tanks if you have to deal with hills with the turbo engine the SX comes with, and the throttle calibration is biased to open up quickly to make it feel more powerful. Otherwise, it was surprisingly competent compared to the previous generation. They don't do the single wheel immobilization nonsense that Toyotas tend to when on mixed ice and snow surfaces at low speed.

Yup. When I moved down here last year, they were just right, but better eating has gotten me to where they were slightly strong. But 2 months ago I was almost 190 pounds. I just weighed myself, I'm at 178. I haven't seen a number on the bottom side of 185 in a loooong time.

I'm off tonight, so I'm going to try cutting the beta blocker in half and see how my BP reacts. Nothing i'm on is extended release, so I doubt I'll see any negative effects. I haven't had them yet, but it looks like my baseline right now is 128/78, so I'm borderline high without anything.

For reference, a coworker was 155 when he started (he's pretty short at about 5'1 or so), he's about 110 after a year of working there. I'm shooting for about 155. I'm not actively trying to lose weight, it's just a physically demanding job. I'm sure the pounds would roll off a lot quicker if I could put down the beer, but I've cut down a bit on that too.

fake edit: never clicked submit. cut it in half, lethargy seems just as bad (been about an hour since I took it). BP is 100/65. Gonna talk to my doctor before I gently caress around with anything else. At least I'm off tonight...

Moto G family was suggested; they're solid for what they are, and I've been using a G5 Plus for my work phone for a bit. But if you want a really, really nice phone, the OnePlus 6T or 7 are both drat nice phones. The Pixel 3a is also great, and a lot cheaper. The OnePlus 7 is big though. Phablet big. If you've never had a large phone, it takes some getting used to.

If I'm going to buy a new phone, I want updates for a few years. It bothers me that there's no Android phone that will get major updates past 2 years or security updates past 3.
