Did you know there's a 191-page thread about Dune in GBS? Please don't think I am suggesting you should go there, I'm just surprised that it exists

beer pal

if you ask me gbs is a lot like the planet araknes (thats what they call the dune planet if you havent read the book) in that it sounds lovely and ive never been there

Yes, and I liked it a lot. It's not great great literature but it's thoughtful and well-plotted with strong characterizations and some interesting ideas and two cool and compelling cultures at the heart of it. I didn't realize that it was the first in a series and the other books haven't been published/(written?) yet, which is a bummer, but it stands alone reasonably well for 9/10ths of it.

After that I read Infomocracy which is a cyberpunk political thriller about the not-too-distant future where, basically, Google (called Information in the novel) has become a one-stop shop for information and communication and the world has been broken up into 100,000 person "centenals" which each vote on their own governments in elections run by Information and every 10 years there's a worldwide election to determine the "Supermajority" government that gets extra power for the next ten years. There are a bunch of very cool and interesting ideas about politics and democracy and the relation between knowledge and behavior in the book but the characters are all the same person and the plotting involves some bullshit so I don't know if I'll read the next two in the series. It was aight.

Now I'm reading The Poppy War which is about...I don't really know yet because I'm only on chapter 2 but it is apparently "grimdark" whatever that means. I didn't read sci fi and fantasy for almost 20 years but recently my brain let me know that it would like to read some stuff that's entertaining and not very difficult or emotionally draining so I'm trying to give it what it wants.

is it full of big fat worms as well?

Farecoal

There he go
cda I would highly recommend The First Law series by Joe Abercrombie, starting with The Blade Itself. Fantasy trilogy that I wouldn't call grimdark, but instead very cynical. I listened to the audiobooks and really enjoyed them

cool i think i'll pick it up some time

ive only recently managed to make reading a natural routine thing in my day after a long time being the guy with the new years resolution to read more and it feels real nice to know when i start a book that i'll get through it in a week or two instead of having it sit around for like three months making me feel guilty

I once played Dune 2000 and the Fremen say "Muad'dib?" When you click on them sometimes and I literally had it stuck in my head for a week I would walk around going "Muad'dib?" to myself repeatedly.

Body water is your life
And without it you would die
On the desert the planet Dune

Very depressing if you think about it because their question never gets answered "En Taro Adun Tassadar" and then "The zerg are overwhelming us executor" okay bro sure fine but can you answer my question?

I think none of the Protoss have read Dune and are too ashamed to admit it.
