What I am saying is that you could make suckers pay for it if you marketed it to the right people.

Edit: And yes, I am aware that disaster (or whatever the right term for it is) tourism is a real, and bad, thing.
Edit2: How about I stfu and :justpost:

Wife and I were there last week, you got much better light than we did! We showed up at sunrise though so we were able to cruise in and park.

I've been totally skunked on sunrises/sunsets this trip, sun always behind clouds or haze when the fancy light is about to hit.

(good thing I enjoy cloudy light too, but just one epic golden hour would be real nice)

We got there before 8am to try and beat the parking but the lot was already full. Thanks to the stupid bus system they have in place we finally got there at 11am instead. It's my first time there even though we usually do about 10 trips to the mountains every year. Totally worth the effort in the end -- what a great location.

Whoops, sorry it's Moraine Lake near Lake Louise, Alberta.

The most photographed lake on the internet. :v:

It's trivial to get a eye catching photo there, the trail takes you directly to the 'best' composition. It's beautiful but creatively bankrupt, any whiff of an original shot requires jumping fences and going off trail and those have been done too.

But I took the picture anyways because now I have MY version of it.

Canada, but it's ok.

A) to keep people from ruining it.
B) to keep people from getting killed by the things that live in the wilderness.

Our wilderness is littered with the bones of adventurous Germans who thought that true wilderness is like some sort of theme park.

My wife and I had the same observation in Monument Valley and nearby parks. People think it's got to be safe, it's a national park, right? So they go to cliff edges, run up to wildlife, climb fences. Watched a foreign tourist couple stand on the fence for a selfie above a literal 1000 foot drop. Fences are good, even if not enough.

North America then, same diff :v:

A) doesn't seem to be an issue here in New Zealand, no fences on our hiking trails and they seem to be doing okay. Mountains are still there. I'll give you B) though, our wildlife is all fat blind flightless birds so I tend to forget some places have bears and yetis and poo poo
