yeah it's Black Summer #0. The reasoning is that their #0s are tiny and can be printed in the back of other comics or on their own cheaply. Its a fun read but a lot less political than I'd expected 'superhero murders the president' to be.  The one that did kind of scratch that itch for me was Ellis' Supergod.

Black Summer was fine enough when I read it when it came out but thinking about it now I can't imagine it's still good in 2019. I think it was before Avatar went full on garbage but it's still a typical Avatar book. Hyper violence and not much else.

I unironically liked Black Summer/Supergod/No Hero. Nothing quite like Ellis ranting about superheroes amidst some of the old ultraviolence.

Supergod is really good but the other two fell pretty flat for me. No Hero in particular is just a bit too nihilistic and depressing.

I still enjoy Black Summer even if it wasnt what I wanted it to be. Looking back on it now, it really is about how seductive the superhero is as a power fantasy is. Ellis had some words about that.

I just remembered something. Black Summer came out in 2007. Mark Millar's Ultimate X-Men came out in 2001/2002. It had the same plot idea that if the X-Men were the future of humanity, they should figure out a better/ more enlightened way of dealing with problems. Not just murdering everyone. It's not really an idea that stayed around for a long time but it was there. (Hench Magneto being brainwashed by Professor X after the first arc.)

I should re-read Ultimate X-Men, because it if I remember it started with Sentinels killing teenagers who hadn't done anything in the streets, which at that point Magneto is absolutely right. And also feels like an appropriate metaphor for today when cops shoot black kids for no reason.

Yes, there are currently four Conan books adjacent books coming out: Conan (Jason Aaron), Savage Sword of Conan (Gerry Duggan), Belit (Tini Howard), and Savage Avengers. The first three are your typical Hyborian Age books and the Avengers one is one where he's been dumped in the Marvel Universe. They're all pretty great.

There have been some situations where Conan is open to help from magic or gods, I think being on the verge of death would be one. Hell, this one time he wished to Crom he had a sword, and then he found one on a corpse, and it made him briefly reconsider his stance on prayer. Then a slime monster attacked him.
