The ICE raids never happened. They were Trump ginning up PR in the wake of his census failure.

Immigrant advocates said the threats so far have been just that: political grandstanding that serves to frighten and intimidate families despite no apparent departure from ICE’s routine work of enforcing U.S. law.

“Trump can declare victory — he already scared the hell out of people,” said Bill O. Hing, a University of San Francisco law professor and the director of the university’s Immigration and Deportation Defense Clinic. “There has been so much drama all over the country.”

That's routine poo poo for ICE. They've been running at max capacity since Trump gave them a blank check to act as the redneck Gestapo.

e: His playbook is pretty well known at this point. Fail at something (census question), double down on something egregious that'll make the news (ICE raids), not actually change anything (ICE has already been doing this poo poo since he took office), and then claim victory while Dems shoot each other rather than going after him with a unified front.

If you want unity then why did Pelosi and other "fiscally conservative" dems vote to fund trumps border fund or w/e they called it? That's why this whole poo poo show started, not trump.

I'm not trying to get angry at you but saying dems are infighting is wrong, there is a clear lack of leadership going on that is the problem, and blaming and singling out 4 new congresswomen is wrong.

I'm not defending Pelosi here, because her response to Trump could have come out of Paul Ryan's mouth. But at the same time, singling out a lesbian Native American woman who herself faced a bunch of threats from right wing nutjobs during her campaign doesn't send a great message.

The answer to overcrowded concentration camps and the manufactured crisis on our border isn't more funding, it's less prisoners. Because loving guess what, you can give the Nazis infinity funding it won't god drat matter; the, cruelty, is, the, loving, point. I want Trump out of office as the number one priority, priority two is demolishing the DNC and creating a true progressive party in its ashes.

At this point I'm not sure that a 2nd Trump term wouldn't be a better catalyst to reforming the DNC than defeating him and installing a middle of the road candidate with a D next to their name. If Trump is defeated then the entrenched interests in the Democratic party lose their reason to change.

Yeah, but there's nothing to say how many would survive another lovely centrist Dem, what with climate change bearing down on us.

Like, an out and out fascist republican candidate that's actually competent is coming. The question is whether there's an opposition in place when he shows up that can actually beat him.

And that's gonna be exacerbated by climate related disasters and refugees.

Pelosi and the Democrats ain't gonna do poo poo because they benefit from the whole goddamn mess. Their stock portfolios have gone up 12% or more since the economy rebounded, their real estate investments have doubled or even tripled in value since The Bubble 2.0 started, and nobody wants to be the one who rocks the boat.

Peter Thiel, Nancy Pelosi, Zuckerberg, Bezos, Jeff Epstein and Trump are all part of the same 0.001%, plutocratic vampire squids who don't give a poo poo about anything or anyone except getting more cash in more offshore bank accounts and making more donations to more niche charities so they can attend more galas and wine tastings on yachts and what the hell lets rape some 14-year olds because why not?!

also the answer to this is that Democrats fundamentally believe that the government functioning is a good thing, and bringing it to a halt hurts far more people than however many you would help by holding out. which itself probably isn't much because Republicans fundamentally think any part of the government functioning outside of the DoD is a waste and are happy to let it all burn. So trying to hold out is, in all but a few circumstances, effectively counterproductive.

Both Pelosi and Trump want an America where they and their corporate donors are insanely wealthy. The only difference is their means of accomplishing it. Pelosi does it by occasionally throwing a bone to socially liberal causes, while Trump does the exact opposite.
