I'd do it just to tell people i've got a 600 dollar escort rotting in my garage

Good egg
:colbert:

They're not a bad car. 1.9 HO. around 135HP of fury if memory serves. Simple and easy to work on. That looks like the OEM wheels which *might* be metric which makes tire replacements a royal pain in the rear end... although on second guess probably not because I can't imagine someone having one of those with metric rubber 32 years later.

I always sort of liked them in weird way, but prefer the 2 seater EXP of that same generation. I can't remember the last time I've seen either in the wild.

CUV's make more sense to buy most of the time there I said it.

Also Nissan tried to release a fun convertible but it got laughed out of town. But it was also a SUV sooo.

Yeah, i get that and all, but why can't one company just break the mold and gently caress some poo poo up.

Cadillac could build the Ciel and tomorrow it would be in all the rap songs, and the day after that they would sell dozens of them.

The 8 series is the new 6 series because the 6 series is the new 5 series hatchback

I guess the S-class counts, but

1. It also starts at $169k Canadian,
2. t's not even all that fullsizey, and
3. It's not the Mercedes-Maybach 6

Even the Phantom Drophead is classified as a subcompact by the EPA

"make money" doesn't mean what it used to. Lots of companies can "make money" doing all sorts of neat and innovative things. Now though "make money" really means "make the most money at the expense of absolutely everything else". Ford could make positive cash flow selling cars here but it doesn't make 'enough' money according to stuff that has no business giving input i.e. shareholders.

That middle ground is companies removing rear headroom from their slab sided CUV and calling it a coupe. That's where your automotive centrism gets us.

People bitch and moan all day about wanting this and that online but they're not the ones that show up with their wallets to the dealer. They're the problem and they can't even see that. Supply and demand (actual demand). I get it though to some extent, new cars are loving expensive and I too am looking at used stuff. But I'm not going to complain when a company doesn't sell a new car I want in my head but wouldn't actually buy anyway.

It costs a lot of money to develop vehicles and competition and undercutting are fierce in this industry. The market has shifted considerably so even Honda and Toyota feel the sedan market shrinking, but they already had a larger piece of the pie in the first place. The domestic companies, not so much so it's no longer profitable.

Funny you mention Ford because they're a total clusterfuck. If they didn't have the F150 they'd be in deep poo poo. That's pretty much the only thing they make money on (we're talking like 80%+ of their overall profit). When it's that one sided I can't say I'm the least bit surprised that they're trying to restructure.

God dammit this is the McDonald's drive through again, isn't it?

I don't buy "not profitable" thing meaning what the words themselves mean though, it's just changed to "not profitable enough". Same things happen with movies, it isn't enough to make a good movie that makes a profit, you have to make the biggest super movie. If it weren't for indies in games it's the same thing there, giant epics trying to make the MOST money.

Nobody is interested in a tidy profit seemingly anymore and everyone is merging with everyone else and that is no good.

The difference between me and shareholders is I actually buy and use and like cars, shareholders are a blight.

Yeah people are greedy I guess...? Why don't you sell your imported cars for $2 more than you paid for them? Do you aim to buy ones that will make you very little profit?

I do think what we charge for our imports is completely reasonable and that we do sell them and have a good relationship after the fact with our customers is testament to that. I want the people who buy our goofy imports to be happy, I don't just want their money.

Greed with an eye for sustainability is better than just straight greed. That's how GM had to declare bankruptcy, why Chysler is now owned by Fiat, is why International doesn't exist like it used to. Not sure why this is controversial at all especially considering how you just got done talking about how silly Ford's current situation is. Shouldn't they have other things besides the F150 making money? I think maybe they should but what do I know, I'm not a billionaire.

I still want a smaller pickup. The new Ranger is close, but I'm thinking more the old Ranger (in size). Of course, I can't afford a new car anyway, so the point is moot, as noted above.

Especially if you're Disney, which is why I hate that they bought, like, *everything*. There's profitable, then there's "gently caress You We're Disney" profitable, and they won't make a movie that isn't gently caress You profitable, despite some of the best films in terms of anything but money being only mildly or reasonably successful.
