Carb heaters are in general good. They keep the carb from icing up in cold weather, which, with a venturi is easier than you might think. They also serve to regulate the incoming air temp, leading to more consistent performance. My elite has both a coolant based carb heater as well as a coast enrichener. The carb heater I left for the reasons stated above, the coast enrichener I blocked off because they are pretty unnecessary and without them you get all the off-throttle popping and burbling out of the exhaust. Its great on the Elite because of course the exhaust is very quiet, but you can hear the off throttle pops and snaps just enough to know they're there.

Yeah carb heaters aren't rare or bad. Yamaha has been doing it for a long time along with lots of carbureted cars.

With as much of a kick in the dick as carb extraction has been on the Rex, I'm kind of glad it didn't come with the carb heater circuit. (Euro bikes got the heater, NAm bikes got the emissions control PAIR system). I think if I'd had to drain and refill the coolant in addition to the mechanical headaches I'd have sold the fucker on and never found out about the cams. Now that I'm a little more comfortable with the procedure, I guess I can keep the heater circuit in mind if I ever really feel a need to go riding on cold wet days. I probably won't. Calgary's super dry most of the time anyway.

In this case it's probably a good thing that I didn't notice it sooner (even in the video it looks like tar snakes until you're right on top of it). I had never ridden over (what I perceived to be) a ladder before, and I probably would have braked hard and/or swerved, and hitting the thing with a lot of weight on the front wheel and some lean could have been disastrous. Riding straight over and keeping the weight off the front by staying on the gas is the way to go. captainOrbital posted:Where on Earth do you live? 90% of the time I delete my commuting videos without even opening the files. bay area. The punch pins have actually been fine, what gave out first was the threads on the inner bolt and then the head on the riveter (which as mentioned a DID rivet just ground flat immediately). I doubt I'll get a refund but it's worth a punt. e/ I've just ordered a clip link to hopefully get it up to a shop. I really wanted to do this myself but I need the fucker running, and I can't afford to keep trying poo poo that might not work right now. I've had pretty good luck so far with the DID tool, but if the RK is as good as you guys say, that's pretty impressive considering all the extra poo poo you get with it

Some little poo poo stole a 20p plastic bag from my motorcycle panniers last night. Didn’t steal the £30 dayglo waterproofs though. In response, I have spent another £200 on security products.

Are insurance quotes produced by a random number generator? I insured my FE 250 today, Progressive still had my FC 250 on my policy for some reason, since it was stolen the first day I owned it, and they literally own it now. Got the policy switched over, and with the claim and everything the cost came to... them paying me $10 because my new policy is 31.50 a year instead of 41.50. It makes no sense, the FE is street legal and could be in an at-fault accident, the FC was not, and could pretty much only be totalled racing, which I'm pretty sure they wouldn't cover, the FE, of course can still be totalled racing off road. What the gently caress?

Our insurance person told us our rate was really low because most accidents on motorcycles result in the death of the policy holder, so they don't need to pay anything. I feel fairly certain that's BS, but it certainly doesn't instill any confidence in the insurance company. This was from progressive
