I just don't understand furries. I understand wanting to be an animal just fine, like it'd be great to be an actual cat free of responsibilities, or just a moray eel or whatever, but they specifically want to be a certain kind of cartoon animal which seems to defeat the purpose. They don't look like animals at all.

I became aware of furries in the late 90s when MTV did some doc about a guy “coming out” to his family as a furry, and I literally could not wrap my mind around what the gently caress was even going on. 20 years later and a an unfortunate degree of exposure later and I still don’t understand it anymore than I did then. My only guess as to why it’s managed to persist is that it’s become less about sexual deviancy over the years, and more about extremely online/ socially rejected people finding something to rally over that also allows them to completely disguise themselves and avoid reality. I don’t think a large amount of people are inherently drawn to living as sports mascots, but they are drawn to a group that doesn’t reject them for being autistic or being poorly socially adjusted or whatever. Whether or not that is healthy is probably debatable. I agree it’s really not hilarious like it used to be but it’s still just depressing and embarrassing to look at.

For Julius Caesar, everyone should wear Roman dress, Caesar should wear a laurel wreath at all times and in MacBeth, MacBeth should wear a kilt and speak in a Scottish accent. I hate gimmicky Shakespeare performances where they try to give it either a Highly Relevant Message or put in some kind of dumb gimmick. And no actors from Gamer Thrones or other stupid TV series. Benedict Cumberbatch can also gently caress off.

"This play has survived hundreds of years and is regarded as a classic of English literature, but we should totally update it to the modern day and give everyone submachineguns*" ~ an idiot. *that was an adaptation of Macbeth starring Jack Davenport. I felt the dialogue during the final duel between Macbeth and Macduff suffered somewhat from having to be shouted over two men firing Uzis at each other.
