I didn't know this at the time because I only read Nintendo Power, but they were all horribly misogynistic, hateful "edgy" rags. That culture then moved online when the magazines folded.

The 90s can pretty much be characterized as "It's funny to be an rear end in a top hat!" probably as a pushback against increasing calls for various social actions- particularly environmentalism and feminism, but alsoa LOT of "think of the children!" style moral majority weirdness and calls to censor everything. Like the gators' persecution delusion of SJWs coming to take away all the video game titties? That was actually a risk in that decade, only it was coming from the government and fundamentalist lobbies. Which is another reason why that whole movement looks absolutely pathetic in its terror of censorship.

Bimbos of the Death Sun was a book all about how ludicrously toxic sci-fi/fantasy fandom was, and came out in 1988. Nerds have always been awful.

If Vic had just quietly gone away for awhile and stopped going to cons he could probably have gotten more jobs voice acting after a bit, but he's never going to be able to work as a voice actor again now. Especially since he tried to sue Funimation in addition to the women he assaulted. https://twitter.com/renfamous/status/1151509264017571843

Tried to sue the people who accused him of such and the company he formerly worked for for defamation. Proceeded to poo poo all over himself repeatedly while his lawyer did the same.

In the threatening letter his lawyers sent out they claimed calling him a piece of poo poo was defamatory because he's a human being and not literal feces.

Also, one of the "defamatory allegations" was that he pulled a girls head back by her hair and whispered something horrible to a woman (girl? I don't remember how old she was at the time of the incident) and he confirmed in deposition that he pulled her head back by her hair.

But those aren't even the best parts! Through deposition ether Vic, Beard, or both have-- Conceded that there is no defamation. Conceded that there is no damages caused by any possible defamation. Admitted that Vic isn't actually sure what he's suing for. Admitted that Vic doesn't know where the money is coming from or how anything is getting paid for. Admitted that if his lawyer and his nephew are ripping off a bunch of kids, well, that's not HIS problem. Admitted to trying to talk a pair of twins into a 3-way. Admitted several times that Vic is a public figure (he's supposed to be trying NOT to do that since Public Figures have much, much higher standards of evidence to meet to sue someone). Seriously this has been a shitshow so blatant that even a layman can see the fuckups. Current bet is that everything is going to be thrown out and then Vic is going to get hit with an anti-SLAPP and forced to pay all the legal fees of everyone involved. Did I mention that the Defendants have hired about 4-5 agencies between them, some of the best and most expensive legal teams in the state of Texas? So that's a fuckload of money right there.

This is understandable as defamation is very hard to prove ('malice' versus 'actual malice' from what little I've gathered following this), but you don't have to dig too deep to see that Vic's firm doesn't have a talent for it. It came out Vic tried to get at least one other law firm before his current one and they turned the case down.

I am astonished how active these #istandwithvic guys are. You can't look at a Funimation Facebook or Twitter post (This includes Funi voice actors from DBZ, etc.) without a mass of replies saying how disappointed they are or how unprofessional every voice actor who has spoken out against Vic has been. I know anime fans can be pretty hardcore, but to go against one of the biggest localizers and the biggest voices... all of the sake of one mediocre voice actor? I get that it's probably more CHUD bullshit than anime fans, but their persistence over this is pretty surprising to me.

Out of all the evidence of actual appalling abuse in the Vic Mignogna stuff, there's no need or reason to tee hee about him hiring a sex worker. If it was a consensual paid transaction between two adults, who cares? Stigmatizing people frequenting sex workers stigmatizes sex workers, which is crummy. He's a violently misogynistic abuser and pedophile, why bury the lede?
