WARNING! INTRUDERS DETECTED

I feel like this sort of analysis doesn't factor in important decisions enough. I mean it's cool if Gorsuch joins the liberals on some warrantless search bullshit or whatever, but it's cold comfort when Roe gets overturned. Some decisions are way more impactful than others.

I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if he had. Why overturn Roe when you can keep whittling it to de facto impotence at a fraction of the cost in public outrage. No need to risk those rumblings about court packing becoming shouts when all you need to do to maintain complete power is be the only Republican who still says the quiet part quiet. Unlike other Republicans, he can afford to because nobody can primary him.

Listening to Opening Arguments about this - clerks will loving go to bat for their judges, full stop. No clerk will ever, ever badmouth their judge, who is the person giving/gave them a leg up into the profession. He can have lovely opinions, he can be sexist, and his clerks will NOT talk poo poo about him in public.

When Amy Chua (the mother) was basically acting as Kavanaugh's spokesperson during his confirmation hearings, many people pointed out the conflict/hypocrisy, that she was just doing it so her daughter would get hired as a clerk. The daughter responded that her military commitments meant she wouldn't even be in a position to clerk for him the following year!

Lo and behold, that was a loving lie. But SCOTUS has no binding ethics requirements, so gently caress us all

There should be either (a) spaces before and after the hyphen or (b) no spaces at all. Also there is a “for” in the last sentence that should be a “to”. Many of Kozinski’s clerks said he was great - right up until a critical mass of them publicly came out and said that he was a piece of poo poo harasser.

Kavanaugh, of course, was a Kozinski clerk.

Tangent on conservative sexual issues, I got to spend yesterday with a us district court judge. I had no idea that prosecuting pedophilia / child porn offenses made up such a dominant slice of the criminal cases passing through federal trial court.

Remember that most normal crime (assault, burglary, murder, etc.) is handled through the state systems. The feds are mostly there for drugs, the mob, and child porn, even with the effects of creeping federal criminalization.

Pretty much all that poo poo has an interstate component and I can't imagine there are many local cops who'd prefer to shoulder that lovely responsibility themselves. Plus that's one thing that historically feds aren't entirely terrible about effectively prosecuting (epstein poo poo aside) and they make statistically fewer mistakes that will lead to some predator getting off on a technicality.

IIRC sex offenders make up a surprisingly large portion of the federal prison population, too. To the extent that they have prisons entirely for sex offenders.

It's possible that each of those opinions are coming back with paragraphs of rewrites next to each paragraph they submitted. He sounds like an rear end in a top hat and it also sounds like his nepotistic clerks are lovely writers themselves.

If he actually had someone there that could write worth a gently caress, he'd probably have less rewrites. Instead he has children of people who bribed him as clerks.

Hundreds of drafts can only mean that he's the rear end in a top hat. You could literally have toddlers as clerks and you wouldn't need hundreds of rewrites because after a dozen or so you'll have just written it yourself.

Not just an rear end in a top hat but a dumb rear end in a top hat. AT that point you're just trying to brute force monkeys+typewriters your way into decent writing. Lots of lovely writers all trying to churn churn churn until they get something readable.
