I am friends with a guy who did bullshit shop-grunt welding for five years then got his SCUBA diving cert. That is some crazy loving money. Granted he'll probably die doing it but his kids will be set for life if he can make it 5 years or so.

I'm watching my line of work (field service) transition to requiring 4 year degrees and its equal parts hilarious and terrifying. I take great pleasure in the fact that ex military dudes are really angry they cant exclude women and minorities in the hiring process anymore, but wages are starting to stagnate really bad, and promotion opportunities are drying up unless you have the "right" degree. I really need to go back to school and use the rest of my GI bill on something useful or fun.

They're thought to be made up of memebers of HKs organized crime scene. Because sure, a bunch of drug dealers will spontaneously break cover to supress a political faction, happens all the time  I'm cautiously optimistic about these protests, I really hope that the people of Hong Kong hold onto their civil liberties but there's a lot at stake here. Hopefully the size and publicity of the protests prevents the CCP from turning this into another oppressed enclave, but it's 2019 and anything could happen
