God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. Who will wipe this blood off us? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we need to invent?

i have a meeting with my landlords tomorrow about the air conditioning situation. they want to come into my apt to "see why it is so hot" and why the window unit they put in the bedroom isnt cooling a 1,500 square foot apartment.

they're just looking to come in and find a reason to evict me, aren't they? :(

Maybe not to evict but definitely to blame you somehow yeah. If it were me I'd look up the model unit online because I'm sure the effective sq footage is listed. If it is dinky and only supposed to be cooling 500 sq ft then there's your answer.

E: quick google says it needs to be rated around 22-23k BTUs to cool ~1500 SQ feet but that's also probably for ideal conditions and fewer/larger well insulated rooms.

Those are also big fancy units that cost like $600-$700+ so I kind of doubt that's what you have anyway.

The important thing is that he tried to make up for it. It's the thought that counts.

My bet is on them finding a loophole where they dont need to install better AC, saying theyll do nothing, and telling you to buy a fan for airflow

I had a bank of America account for about a month back in the early 2000s. They reneged on their promise of free checking, so I cancelled my account and asked to speak to manager just so I could call him a lying fucker. Security was remarkably professional in escorting me off the premises.

What happened in college? I was able to get a college-era remark removed from my credit score by contesting it with the credit bureaus. In any case they should go away after 7 years.

Banks are trash, but I have some sympathy for the folks working in the actual branches. Maybe not the managers, but the checkers and sales staff are more or less retail. They basically get told to lie if they want to meet their unreasonable goals and keep their poo poo job.

my landlord sent me a terrifying letter saying that my rent was ten days late and I was being evicted

i went to her with proof I had written the check and after like ten minutes of arguing told her to check the security cams at the time and date I dropped it off in the box and she finally agreed to check again(probably bc the cameras are fake aas security theater ) and found my check stapled behind someone else’s and didn’t apologize for the letter

I was too shook to do anything but smdh and leave, but I wish I had pressed for a discount on rent or something

Had a falling out with family who were helping to pay for it and so I maxed out a card with a $1k limit to be able to live and couldn't find a job in time before it went into default/collections.

Yeah I mean the thing isn't on my credit anymore but nonetheless my credit is still 620 and I can't rebuild it because I can't even get a credit card.

Not that it matters much because I can't save up a down payment anyway so it's whatever really.

We had the same thing, we did auto-payments and the bank hosed up one month. Took the money out so it showed on our end, didn't send the check. Six days later there's a letter on our door saying that if they don't hear from us in 24 hours they'll initiate proceedings etc. It takes a month, minimum of no contact and no money before you can even start kicking someone out the letter is just to scare you.

I was 3 days "late" on rent and got a 3 day notice to pay rent or quit on my door. Same exact thing happened, dumb rear end landlord lost my check.

This is after I had been a tenant for 3 years and never once missed or had been late.

I had a landlord charge me rent after I moved out of the unit.

Turns out somehow they had a computer glitch and although my lease expired in November it thought it expired in October so they sent all the renewal paperwork stuff in September. I thought "huh I thought we had another month on the lease" but I wasn't too bothered by it. One roommate was already planning on leaving at the end of the lease and we were going to move into a smaller unit in the same complex. So one month earlier to move was whatever.

However, somehow, that glitch didn't extend to the rent payments so that first month the system charged me for both the new unit and the old unit. For some fuckwit reason I had to argue with the leasing office for two weeks about it and finally had to threaten them with an attorney (have one in the family so there's that at least when I need some grease) before they sorted their poo poo out. They literally went "well look yeah we sent the expiry/renewal stuff early but nonetheless you did sign through until November and it doesn't matter that we've already taken possession of the unit back and that you've handed over your keys!"

I don't really blame whoever works at the office though obviously they are just a small cog in the management machine of Property West Residential owned by a billionaire fuckhead and his failson.

It's just a gently caress you to poor people on month to month agreements because if you have a lease then they can't do that anyway because you have a contract.

It also makes it incredibly easy for them to ambush their tenants on a 12-month lease. They can wait until days before renewal and give the tenant a contract raising the rent by 30%. At that point the tenant can either agree or throw away all their possessions and live in a hotel for a few weeks while they try to find a new place to live.

I was at first, until the case got cracked and it wasn't any of the former tenants in my unit. It was a group of contractors who he had hired for a job and didn't pay, which was pretty standard practice on his part. When these guys decided to kidnap him from in front of his office and rough him up until he coughed up the money, they were a little too enthusiastic and sat on his chest for too long. He then suffocated to death and they had to find a way to dispose of the body. Original plan was to drive way out east to Montauk and throw him in the ocean, but it was the middle of a blizzard and they didn't get very far - hence the gas station dumpster flambé.

Yeah, even in some states with strong tenant rights (such as MN) you can have poo poo like allowing eviction proceedings to start the second someone is late. At least in MN as long as you can pay the late rent + filing cost before the court date then you're considered paid up and they can no longer evict you. And even in cases where it might be illegal to do your remedies are often pretty lovely which means landlords have way more power to do the illegal poo poo and a mea culpa if they actually get caught and punished.

As a renter in the province of Ontario who got his increase notice a couple of days ago (takes effect Nov. 1), it really is. Hell, my one-year lease expired and I'm still on a month-to-month. Even then, they still have to give me proper notice, and if I want to move out, I have to give them a month's notice, too.

And as someone who does taxes for landlords and known a few people who were also regular landlords: they are the some of the whiniest people I've ever encountered. I know that's not a surprise, given all the previous material posted here, but they're worse than "small business" people and self-professed "entrepreneurs". At least they ostensibly had to work to get their business going, or are just a guy with a set of tools and a truck who works for himself.

just think, in some less stupid timeline this happened to a different slumlord famous for stuffing contractors.

10 years is phenomenal yes, but you're not likely to get that long anymore. I wasn't kidding about shredders, it was the "200 years of real estate laws don't matter, right" era where they came up with the brilliant idea of not recording transfers with the county or keeping original documents because it cost money. they still pull the cdo bundle poo poo but have figured out how to generate a proper legal paper trail after the 08 fiasco.

you would be absolutely shocked at what you can get with poo poo credit though. 4 years out of bankruptcy and the foreclosure process started long enough ago that it doesn't count for their metrics and I found a fda ag-loan program for having three months payment in my bank. not a down payment, just had to prove I had it available. you have to do your own legwork, nobody knows half this poo poo exists.
