i don't shill my stream in here particularly often but w/e I'm doing a series run of all the Japanese mainline Silent Hill games, so like 1 to 4. If that sounds like a lot of qualifiers its mostly because I don't want to play Play Novel. People seem to dig these series runs so I hope maybe you will too, as you marvel at how the patchwork tech setup will probably poo poo itself at some point during this. https://www.twitch.tv/punchi/

Been making some actual effort on Blaster Master Glitchless lately: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HREuNwV_0L4 44:53 with a sum of best of 44:19 after like 6 runs, so there's still a lot that come off it, but this category is fun and still has some pretty tight tech in a few spots so it's not like it's a butter smooth ride compared to other categories. Moatman posted:It's probably biking actually. Takes less energy Biking is just running while standing on moving platforms.

I've been revisiting some of my old records for individual level runs in Startropics, because when I did them I just took the first run that beat the other guy's records and called it a day, without optimizing at all. Since nobody else really runs ILs, that's good enough for most of the dungeons. I shaved ten seconds off of the previous chapter 5 record the other day using some really inconsistent strats. From my youtube description: "There is still time to save here. I decided to gamble on four factors outside of the player's control, and if three of them worked out I would take the run. The four things are 1) The bats in the second room can line up and let you run past. This did not work out. 2) The blue bowling ball strategy has a 1/3 chance of being impossible, otherwise it's a 1- or 2-frame window. 3) The spear trap in the spike chase room can hit you sometimes if you run straight through, and 4) The red bowling ball strategy, same as the blue one." Last night I did some optimization on the first chapter 6 dungeon which I consider the most technical dungeon in the game. It's also not perfect, and I lost some time here and there, but the amount of things that has to go right in this dungeon to be "perfect" is pretty staggering. The video description has details for those interested. This particular run took about three hours of attempts to get right. I doubt I'll go for the perfect run unless someone else starts running these ILs and beats my times, but it's nice doing small 3-5 minute runs instead of hour-long runs that are at the mercy of RNG at the very end.

Big PB in Startropics today! (Actually a 1:05:48 when Zoda Prime's death animation starts) Thirty second time save is much better than I thought I'd do on my next PB. This didn't even feel like a particularly good run going into chapter 7, but I played 7 and 8 pretty well. This puts me in fifth place on the leaderboards! Video here if anybody's interested! No commentary for this one, it was just a practice run so I didn't stream it or have my mic on. Good thing I've been told to record all of my practice runs!

Some of the stuff I'm interested in (old-school Quake, in particular) is happening while I'll likely be asleep, so that's a bit unfortunate. Having said that, it does seem like it's a pretty good schedule with a lot of different types of speed-games being played. It's not like I won't be watching though, as I'll still have it on while I do other things.

So 3 days before their GDQ run, a TAS was released for TMNT3. They didn't watch it until after their run for fear of trying stupid new strats. They used TAS strats for runs in the practice room during the week and murdered their PB by 2 and a half minutes. All of their practice leading up to GDQ was on emulator netplay so moving to local also made a huge difference. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8-QzHSxlng
