I feel like bernal is under orders not to attack so as not to risk G's podium. He'd clearly want a proper stage win.

Yeah hes 100% comfortable here and could clearly be 2 minutes up the road if he wanted.

When was the last tour where the winner didn’t win at least one full-length stage?

If G attacks then bernal can just follow the chase to the end, I think that's more likely

At some point you gotta figure Buchman will attack to try for 3rd which would spur the others.

I don't think it was ever going to be that selective among the GC riders as the only climb of a 50km stage.

Seeing a rider of Bernal's natural ability win this one in such anticlimactic circumstances is like seeing a billionaire win $100 on a scratch ticket. I'd like to see what he can actually do for an exciting win, but chances are they'll just skytrain him for the next five years.

In fairness to him he did kick the poo poo out of everyone the previous two days, it's just we don't notice because the cancelled stage took all the attention off it. The only other GC rider to be anywhere close to that aggressive was Pinot.

Or maybe he dug too deep yesterday in trying to get as much time as possible, and didn't quite get enough sugar or water during the stage, so he lost his max power - when you've above 2km height and three weeks into a grand tour, it doesn't take much to miss out on having max power for a stage.
