ICE held a teen for four weeks trying to get him to sign deportation orders. He is a US citizen and provided them a US birth cert, social security card, and driver’s license. He was stopped inside the US, traveling within the US. I’m starting to think this isn’t just about blindly enforcing the laws on the books!

I billed them another $250 for the time I spent trying to secure my identity after the breach. Up to 10 hours at $25 dollars an hour doesn't require any documentation and only an explanation of the steps taken.

psydude posted:No. Democrats refused to fund the wall, so Trump shut down the government for 3 weeks and then finally capitulated and reopened it, stating he was going to redirect defense money to build it. The democrats sued, claiming that reuse of the defense funds that had already been appropriated sidestepped Congress' Constitutional role in allocating money. Part of the funding shift was struck down in court, but the surplus military construction funds were found to be available to the president. Who called that money "surplus?" Last I checked, there are still two air force bases that are largely destroyed. mlmp08 posted:ICE held a teen for four weeks trying to get him to sign deportation orders. The idea that you don't have to spend money on what Congress approved and can instead spend that money on things Congress didn't approve seems unconstitutional on its face, but anyway I'm glad the conservatives on the Supreme Court just said president Sanders is allowed to do whatever he wants.

Trigger those libs!"

Yeah republicans setting a precedent and then democrats expecting to follow the same precedent is literally not how American politics works in 2019. I think I’m going to make “Stop fighting conservatives with reality and logic” my default signature.

Pretty cool that, "You look like one o' them furriners" is a good enough loophole that due process means nothing. Not like that can be/is being abused by a rising fascist political organization.

Flying_Crab posted:hell yeah. Unfortunately the amount of money set aside for the cash payments (at least the up to $125 ones) is only $31 million. Given that there's 145.5 million people eligible for this if only 5% of them take the payment it's going to be ~$4.26 per person. This thing has been pretty widely publicized as "get $125!" so I'd bet it ends up being easily more than 5%. If anybody hasn't claimed theirs yet I'd probably go for the credit monitoring option instead even if you're not worried about identity theft because the cash payment is almost certainly going to be tiny. You might have better luck getting an appreciable amount of money if you do the time lost claim too though as that's an additional, larger pot I think.

Hot Karl Marx posted:I read somewhere that you can also qualify for $250 somehow You can claim $25 per hour of your time spent due to the data breach, up to 20 hours. However if you claim more than 10 hours you must back it up with documentation. If you claim 10 hours or less you just have to type out and explain what you did. So it's easy to claim an additional $25 to $250 by just saying you spent 10 hours researching identity theft protection or whatever, and that is a separate amount of money available for disbursement from the regular $125 claims AFAIK.
