Clark Nova posted:If you're handy you can replace your screen/digitizer for like $30 to hold you over until the new phones come out. It requires the proprietary apple screwdriver and a spudge but no glue-melting shenanigans Yeah, as long as it doesn’t have the touch IC failure, this screen, two screwdrivers, and a spudger or other pry tool (a guitar pick would probably work) and you’re back in business. Disconnect the battery first so you don’t accidentally fry anything, and be careful with the home button cable because if you tear that, Touch ID is broken forever. Anything else can be replaced if it gets damaged, but the 6/6+ are the second easiest iPhone screens. Only ones easier are the 5/5C.

I’m abroad right now andantes using s temporary foreign SIM card. My phone is prompting me to “change Apple ID phone number”. Would it be bad to do this or can I just do this and then switch right back when I get home and put my original SIM back in? Also is this why iMessage appears not to work?

Okay seriously how do I open a tab in the background now in iOS 13? I’ve tried every variation of the two finger tap people talk about but nothing works. Why did they take away that option? I don’t get it.

I don’t get notch hate. It’s a spot to shove your HUD elements into. I would like to prioritize what shows up there (like when my airpods are connected hide like, battery life to show the headphone symbol), but otherwise it’s fine?

I don’t have a problem with the notch, but I can’t not notice it. I’ve made my peace with the display but I never forget it’s there. Still better than TouchID. Also it lets them squeeze a lot of screen in a small footprint.

Notch is fine. Obviously it would be nicer to not be there, but I understand why and rarely remember the notch is actually there. Also, to affirm with others, I liked Touch ID, but Face ID works better.

AppleID is nothing to do with iMessage. You can register your temporary number for iMessage and then it will work, or just use email addresses. I just came back from holiday and I did this OK. I would suggest not starting conversations from the temporary number.

MarcusSA posted:No they use their own bullshit. I just downloaded the Facebook app too see what’s going on and if you hit share, then more options, you get the iOS share menu. Problem is is that Facebook is sharing a url to the image (locked behind a login screen) so you can’t just save the picture. (Tap on the 2 pill looking things and turn on “show in share sheet”) And it’ll open the url. The first time you do this you’ll need to log in and choose to save the browser. Once you do that you’ll be at the image’s page and you can just tap on “view full size”, the share button again and “save to Files.” … it’s a few steps too many but there probably isn’t a way to programmatically get the picture as it’s locked behind a login screen. But well, you can do all this without leaving the Facebook app (after you save it hit done and you’re back). Here’s a better one that skips all those steps: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/6c2e959735304fbcb9fb506dbc455866 You’ll still need to share the full size picture again in order to save it to Files, but this will open the page to the full size image directly. On first use you’ll still need to login and save the browser. Boris Galerkin fucked around with this message at 15:05 on Jul 28, 2019 |

Signing in with your Apple ID is how you link your phone number with iMessage and how you use iMessage if you don't own an iPhone. tl:dr version- check your messages settings for Send and Receive to see what you're connected to and what you show up as. You also need working sms messaging to connect your phone number to your Apple ID.

Apparently you can trick an iPhone into displaying CarPlay on Android tablet using this $50 USB dongle: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32826755246.html There's even a wireless version for $100: https://avinusa.com/wireless-apple-carplay-android-auto-usb-adapter.html I'm tempted to grab a refurbished Fire HD 8 and a CD slot mount so the car I'm leasing has carplay.

Is it possible in iTunes (or a third party service) to select a couple of favourite bands and have it send me a notification or email whenever they release new songs or albums? I don't really keep up with Twitter feeds or whatever of the bands I like but there's maybe three or four where I'd like to know right away if something new comes out.
