Feels like people are going out of their way to forcefully slam it because they realized they didn't actually like Coloring Book that much once the positive hype wave for Chance settled down, so they're trying to course correct.

No, the people who are most forcefully slamming it hated Coloring Book from the beginning. I think that album had infectious joy, great use of gospel instrumentation, and an energy that suggested Chance and his crew were really gunning to make something great and unique. The Big Day feels like all the charisma was sucked out of it. The rapping is phoned in and the beats are instantly forgettable. Plus it’s 50% longer.

It’s a cliche older than rap itself but I don’t think he has the hunger anymore.

i cut big day down to 30 minutes and its a solid 6.5/10 imo. i really liked coloring book but whoever said it was mastered by a deaf 5 year old hit the nail on the head. why does acid rap sound fine but coloring book and big day sound loving awful?

It gets more and more self righteous and condescending with each project?

Honestly the only song I even play in any sort of regular on Coloring Book is Mixtape with Young Thug and it's not because of Chance.

YBN Cordae's album brings the Chance optimism and Gospel while being way better than Chance's.

Sometimes, there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. He fits right in there. And that's Jimmy T.
I am really digging this YBN Cordae album, it feels very cohesive and the whole thing is flowing together really well. He has great bars, is versatile, and the production is a perfect complement. I decided to check this album out because Colin Kaepernick posted about it and mentioned that YBN Cordae has been a huge supporter of his for a while now. I guess when they had the protest in DC against the NFL, Cordae drove from Maryland to be there and met/talked with Colin. Highly recommend.

oh no there are three videos and the two i didn't post have Rico and Megan in them (but tierra is also awesome)

i'd say that all three videos have the women rapping circles around the men but DaBaby comes out at the end after megan/osiris/lil dwight's cousin and goes for about twice as long as everyone else and maybe it's just his particular flow but it seemed really impressive. Dude's got charisma for days.

Agreed with both of these posts. I liked coloring book a lot and have cooled on it definitely since it released, but goddamn even the corny stuff on coloring book goes harder than almost everything on The Big Day. Acid rap and coloring book are actually cohesive pieces of work and the big day seems so random and phoned in.

E: I’m also pretty sure every single feature or guest on the big day eclipsed chance on his own album

I have actual skeletons in my closet
the funny thing about chance is that he didn't want to marry his wife. he was basically guilted into it and she was going to take him to court for child support. once his public image started to take a hit, she became wife material. he's everything people hate about christians and i think christians or spiritual people have a place in rap but he's so typical.

quote:

Both men are virtuosos of top-volume self-presentation. Flex is the paterfamilias of New York rap radio, a fixture on Hot 97 for more than 25 years, and, when he chooses, a theatrical antagonist. Tyler has been a mischievous disrupter of hip-hop norms for a decade, an aesthete and a goof. Flex is a nightclub-rap centrist and a booster of classic boom-bap; Tyler turned bad behavior and an outré-rap cult following into a mini-empire that nevertheless still feels like a fringe movement. They’ve had little reason to interact.
