I'd guess it's maybe an old police box turned into a coffee place or something, there was one around that area I think.

But pretty much the whole old town is just a year round nightmare of shoving past hordes of slow walking tourists and shop after shop selling the worst cheesy souvenir shite so I don't spend much time there.

I was going to make a joke about the figure being shorter than a Sontaran, but then I remembered my only height reference for Moffat was once seeing him next to that friendly giant Russell T Davies.

If Moffat is actually on the short side, pretend I said "lol the figure's shorter than a Sontaran so checks out."

Is that supposed to be one of the Doctors (Tennant?) because the outfit looks weird and the face looks more like Harry Sullivan (he's an imbecile) than anybody else.

It is indeed meant to be Harry, and I think specifically it's Harry in this jacket:

it barely looks like him though

I don't think that's fair--from what I remember it's really clear that colonialism is harmful and essentially indefensible, and the main reason the other guy is shown as bad is simply he just didn't understand what his actions would do to the city and its dome--it was a problem with his methods, not his goals. plus even after that the doctor says that at least the colonial powers are gone now and things can improve

it didn't come across like a TRUTH IN THE MIDDLE thing to me but i listened to it a little while ago and maybe i simply wasn't paying good enough attention

There were a number of factors here, mainly that Big Finish was still new, and they had literally just gotten the Doctor Who license. As such, they didn't have the time or money to make "music" for non-Doctor plays.

They had a better theme before that which they replaced with this monstrosity. What a strange decision

Ignore my posts!
I'm aggressively wrong about everything!
Hi everyone, I'm working on an extremely bad idea, and could use your help!

I'm working on a music-based project (I'm not comfortable calling it anything more specific than that, because I have no idea what I'm doing), and I've realized there's part of it that could use, specifically, Classic Who music famously connected to the Daleks or Cybermen. I was going to go with their respective Murray Gold themes largely because I'm familiar with them and they're easy for me to find, but I think this project could use a touch of some good classic sci-fi synths and the like if at all possible.

Are there any that jump out to anyone here?

"Space Adventure" by Martin Slavin was basically the Cybermen's them (though it was also used for the Yeti).

Aside from Space Adventure, which was mentioned, Tristram Cary's music for the first Dalek serial was used again in The Daleks' Master Plan (along with new music Cary wrote) and Power of the Daleks. It was also used in two other non-Dalek stories (The Rescue and The Ark), but it's pretty much as close as the early days got to having a 'Dalek Theme'.

Other than that, Malcolm Clarke's music for "Earthshock" is good 80's Cybermen music - he also wrote the music for Attack of the Cybermen and used similar musical themes in both.

So wait, all of new who is going to move to HBO max? Sigh. Time to buy the blu rays I guess. (I have seasons 5 and 6 and 11, but season 5 I’m missing the first disk 😢). So I’ll buy all of 10, and the rest of 11 and 12’s seasons. (And the specials I like I guess).

There's also the Dalek "heartbeat" ambient sound if you wanted something lower-key. It shows up in New Who occasionally too.

It might be worth looking at some of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop albums - which obviously was also responsible for much of the Classic Who soundscape, at least, early on.

I always preferred the Dalek Suite of Carey Blyton, because it doesn’t fit with ANY era, classic or modern, and just showed up in Death to the Daleks as they were supposed to be menacingly approaching. It felt like a piss take and yet it’s real.

Between that and the Silurian Evil Kazoos, 70’s Who has some bold musical choices before the incidental oboes of Tom Baker took over.
