To the one extreme is socialism. To the other capitalism without honor... the extreme of capitalism.

Extremism, no matter the flavor, is generally evil at its core.

The poor should be cared for, but as the voluntary, ethical motivation of individuals. (Demonstrates the character or lack thereof, of a society)

But, you dont scrap your car that has served you well because you read the map wrong and got lost... you turn around, go back to where you went wrong, make the best adjustments you can, and start off again.

Socialism is on the extreme left. Not just on the left. Therefore, I haven't said that we shouldn't help people at all. However, the base of that help should lie within the society of the people to help a neighbor, as opposed to all of the help coming from the government. Neither of you realize what the extreme means. You see it as an attack, when in reality, you should be seeing it as a logic statement to benefit all.

This is pretty much what I was expecting: saying "help should come from charities; not government!". I didn't feel like getting into an argument about socialism vs. capitalism so I just left it at that.

Of course, all the historical communist dictatorship started not through a slippery slope, but through violent revolution against excesses of capitalism. So if you really want to prevent a dictatorship, you should favor a strong safety net.

I believe there is a universal Truth to the process of doing things right (Not that I have any idea what that actually means).
Found on my uncle's Facebook.

I may tick a few of you off by posting this. We can handle it one of two ways: discuss it like adults or you can unfriend me..your choice. You have your opinion and I have mine. Before anyone gets their panties in a wad, I add that my ancestors came here from other countries and they learned the language and worked and never once did I hear any of them trash America. They became a citizen, were proud to be one and some served in the military! I am nice to everyone and I have no problem with anyone coming here and making a good life for themselves and their family, BUT if you are coming here and expect us to become what you just came from, then that’s not happening!
Return and work on your country and make it better where you can be proud to live in it. I agree with what President Trump said:Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of AMERICA, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks
Separately, TRUMP angered some American Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques.
Quote::
'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT... Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language! Most Americans believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools.
If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining and whining about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great AMERICAN freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE. If you aren't happy here, then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country that accepted you.
NOTE:
IF we circulate this amongst ourselves, WE will find the courage to start speaking and voicing the same truths.
If you agree, please SEND THIS ON and and for those who disagree, move to a third world country and live there. "
THANK YOU! 🇺🇸

I copied and pasted this from someone and so should you!

Mission accomplished.

Also, as horribly written as it is, it's far too well written to be by Trump.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said that she doesn't understand why some people are afraid of 70% marginal tax rate when 40% of Americans struggle to pay for food or rent. Do you think she is right?

quote:

No.

Two reasons:

40% of Americans do NOT “struggle to pay for food or rent.” That statement is the fundamental, underlying flaw in her (and every other) premise surrounding the poor.

I was poor in 1965. That meant, literally, enough food, but not much if anything of everything else. We were on relief much of the time, but still had food, reasonable shelter, etc. but rather few luxuries. REALLY poor people were rail thin and went without food.

The so-called poor in 2019 have plenty of food, in astonishing variety and in sufficient volume to OFTEN be overweight or even obese. They enjoy decent shelter and some luxuries, often a big screen and at least one cell phone per family. They have cars or reasonable transportation. REALLY poor people are often obese, suffer little food stress, but do have problems with shelter, baby diapers, items of that sort, but often have a cell phone.

The world is radically different than this woman states it is. Of the REALLY poor of the 1965 variety, there are virtually NONE in the United States. There has not been ONE single case of documented malnutrition that arose from being POOR as opposed to having poor judgement, OR, the deliberate acts of oneself or another (anorexics, the obese, parents intentionally starving their kids). Not ONE in more than 20 years.

I thus would place those in genuine food stress after assistance at 4% of the population, and the REALLY poor at 1%. This is STILL far too many, and every single one of these people and MANY MORE besides qualify for literally a thousand programs worth of assistance in the hundreds of billions of dollars.

The problem is VASTLY exaggerated. Notice I did not say ANYTHING about having to work more than one job, or having little left over at the end of the month, or even having to go on assistance of some sort. Funny how ALL of the arguments about how poor everyone is fail to take into account various food assistance programs, section 8, and all the rest.

Please, remember that life is a struggle whether or not one has money, and hard work can and should be the standard.

Now, second reason, let’s say this woman is right - I make out about $100 billion would be gathered at 70% marginal rates; this would mean about $600-$700 bucks per person of the 132 million per year. Helpful, I suppose, but not curative under the AOC hypothetical.

In short, the woman does not know how to think, how to add, subtract, or multiply; and, simply spews random bull roar at every opportunity. She may be physically attractive, but her profanity-laced rants against the President (and virtually everyone else she doesn’t like) should have her condemned and removed from her Congressional seat. Forthwith.

Pre-industrial peasants actually had it better than industrial workers. The enclosures were a rather violent affair as people did not voluntarily turn their labour into a commodity to really get this capitalism thing going. It was violence all the way down.

Also I love how she’s “the woman,” because using her name would be too respectful. Mainly, though, that post just needs a giant “citations needed.” “I don’t believe 40% of people have trouble getting food, it’s probably more like 4%.” Sure.
