So I was just looking at the Image solicits for September because I never did, and I was hoping October's was going to be out.

Holy poo poo, Trees is coming back? And it's a 5 part series so it might actually finish? I'm going to have to check if I'm still subbed to that one.

Battlepug is getting an ongoing?! Sure, I like dumb fun, why not?

And then my question for the thread is they also solicited Walking Dead vol 16 hardcover. That only goes up to 192, and volume 4 of the Compendium goes to 193. Didn't that series just finish at 196? I guess I'm screwed for volume 17, unless half the book is interviews, sketches, and some poo poo.

No, it finished at 193. The last issue is listed as being in Compendium 4, Omnibus 8 and Volume 32, so I'd guess it's just a typo.

Anyone have thoughts on the last issue? I really liked it for the most part, a hopeful and little poignant ending in itself, but then unless I completely misread the issue before, Mac's still gonna die slowly and painfully in a couple of years because of Time Travel Bullshit (without even understanding why), which in turn will really gently caress KJ up, so it warped around to being incredibly bleak and depressing and I'm not sure how I feel about it now.

So I just got the Archie Unlimited app and went through through all of Afterlife With Archie and The Married Life. Dang, they really got me. Especially the ending of The Married Life.

I think they even foreshadowed it as far back as Issue #11.

I briefly talked about this in the general thread, but... I'm not wholly sure the current Archie vs Predator 2 is well-written (the dialog didn't feel like it flowed to me), but it's certainly ambitious--it actually ties in to the Married Life comics, and others, via the multiverse, with Betty and Veronica seeking to undo the Predator's kills via Memory Lane, which was the plot device for creating the Married Life series. They also acknowledged all the other weird bits of Archie comics like the time Betty summoned the devil, or Sabrina being a witch.

Also, I wonder if Archie Comics is planning something weirder than usual--I noticed that 4 of their ongoing titles all deal with some threat to the Archie Multiverse at large.

I'd be shocked if they're doing some sort of crossover thing, but I also wouldn't be shocked if that's the crux of AvP2, specifically.

Yeah, issue 1 came out a week or two ago. Same writer, art by Robert Hack. It's a lot weirder than the first one, if you can believe it.

I mean if it’s a direct continuation of the last one which ended with a really hosed up turn then I’m all for it but I’m curious as to how they follow up Archie being a loving predator

End of Life of Toyo Harada is good. I wondered how Dysart was going to wrap this up without eliminating Harada, a boring preservation of the global status quo, or making the entire setting unrecognisable. He managed something in between which works. I hope he returns to writing Peter Stanchek. Obviously Stanchek and Harada are paired narratively, and Harada is obsessed with him, I think in large part because he has an emotional need for the the acceptance of Stanchek. The only other god-tier psiot in Valiant endorsing what Harada's done would allay Toyo's misgivings about the very immoral things he's done in pursuing good ends (again, Harada is a great anti-villain). But Peter's not been developed to where he's intelligent and mature enough to be taken seriously by readers as on a par with Harada (unsurprising given at the start of the Harbinger stuff he was a homeless kid with substance abuse issues and now he can't be much older than 20). I'd like Dysart to be able to do that.

I was a little kid at the time (like, really small, and even then it was re-runs I think?) but I liked Venus. Her whole thing was that she'd trained under Splinter's mystic pen pal and learned shinobi magic, and I thought it was cool that there was a) a girl turtle and b) a magic turtle. In retrospect, though, her character design was really awful. The fact that she has weird shell boobs is just very silly.

Going back a bit, but just caught up on the thread, and sadly, this is a Thing I have Opinions on. The big issue with Venus, in my view, is actually two things: One, the show was clearly squeamish about having a female character taking part in fights, hence why she had the magic powers so she could shoot fireballs and stuff at the Foot, instead of fighting them like the boys did, which is already a red flag of "why are you even doing this when you clearly don't get why it should be done?"; and two, her characterisation completely plays at odds with the core concept of the TMNT, which is that the turtles are teenage boys AND ninjas.

I'm also way behind on the IDW book (I get the omnibuses digitally) but I always felt if you were going to do the female turtle concept, at least in a similar 'there was actually five turtles in the ooze and one got separated' vein as The Next Mutation tried, then actually lean into the teen concept and have her growing up in a different borough, or across in Jersey and have that be a running bit with the inter-city/state rivalry. Give her an actual weapon, like a kusarigama or something. Have her and April bond over being the only girls in the group, or liking the same music or fashion. Don't be afraid to actually have the character being feminine but also don't make that a thing that stops her participating in the action. (I actually think the best way to do this in a reboot is to split Michaelangelo into two characters: Mikey and Angie.)

Like, there's a million ways to do it and that Fox show did almost literally the worst version of it.

My main problem with Venus was that the boys were all named after important Renaissance artists and she was named after a work of art. I know male artists are more prominent in our pop culture but it's not like there weren't any important female artists from that period.

i posted the interview in the gen chat thread a few days ago, but now that im actually reading it, yeah looks like uber may never get finished

quote:

Nrama: You've got Die ongoing right now, Once and Future out this week with Dan Mora, are there any other creator-owned projects that you're working on now that we might find out about soon, or do you have any updates on Ludocrats or Uber Invasion?

Gillen: Uber, I alas have nothing I can talk about. I mean the Uber situation is basically, as soon as I know something I'll let you know. There's four issues to left to write. So hopefully at one point it will come out! And we're so close to the end, it'd be a real shame if it doesn't happen. And I think that's the thing I get asked most regularly is when's Uber coming back, and I wish I had an answer.

Towards the Uber hiatus the issues would be delayed, advertized, delayed again, not show up on comixology, not show up at all, have more huge delays, then a huge relaunch effort with a dozen new covers and rereleases that didnt actually turn up. Sheer idiocy.

In all reality, I bet it's a pay dispute, and Gillen's not going to bother doing work he isn't sure he'll ever get paid for doing. He's *probably* worth a bit more today than he was in 2013 when Uber started. It was Avatar's highest-selling comic, but that just means issue 16 sold 3390 copies and issue 17 sold 3242 copies, beating out their #3 comic in October 2018, Cross Plus 100 mimic by 700-800 copies. Avatar isn't a high-selling company and I doubt they can pay Gillen what he's worth with those sales.

Well that sucks. Oh well. From the sounds of it we might at least get to see an outline of what was going to happen, contra where litigious companies sit on rights, preventing creators from doing absolutely anything (looking at you, HBO, still pissed about Carnivale).

Picked up Pretty Violent hoping itd be more I Hate Fairyland but with superheroes. The detailed gore makes it more like Invincible the cartoon show tho. Like it goes for spilled guts and internal organs rather than the simplified but still detailed cartoon injuries in IHF.

So is Rat Queens still cursed or did Weibe abandoning the title and giving it to a completely new creative team absolve it of its sins?

IMHO it was poo poo after Upchurch was fired and Sejic got sick (which is a shame because it felt like he was put on this earth for that book), then started to recover under the last few issues of Tess Fowler's art, then she and Weibe had a fight. I popped in for the first three issues with Owen Gieni but it was just... boring, like Weibe was so scared of where the book was going before that he had to expunge all tone other than frat humor.

I'm mostly wondering if it's still a title that would result in people dogpiling me or mass unfollows if I post funny panels from it on social media.

Finished reading Godshaper and... hmm.

I mean the love and detail in the book is great. Tons of queer content, deep setting, real world parallels, etc. but when you throw in such a huge thing into ‘our world but X happened’, in this case everyone gets a god, theres a lot to ask of suspension of disbelief. For me, why shapers are so hated and persecuted is the big mental hurdle that I just couldnt jump. And my grounding of earlier American music is pretty shaky so i guess that didnt help.

I did appreciate it tho.
