Its hosed up and it makes me sad

The total dysfunction has alienated so many people, at least locally. Like there was a screaming match when we had an organizer from the felon voting rights amendment push. They never worked with us again
i said that, and the only way to ensure that the people you talked about don't take power is to get more people into the local organization and the left in general. once people are in charge who actually know how to organize and bring something to the table that isn't whining, you can make a local a force to be reckoned with. that's easier said than done, of course, and i'm not sure how you do that in smaller chapters that tend to attract cranks of all stripes

Yeah like I understand for cultural reasons wanting to have it in the south but jesus loving christ it's so goddamn down here why can't we have it in new york or somewhere closer to the mid-atlantic. Chicago makes sense because it's in the middle of the country and easy to reach. The bylaw that says it has to be somewhere different everytime is dumb as hell

Not to mention that you can negotiate a better deal if you do it in the same place every time.

Centennial Park (pyro)

Heads-up: There is filming taking place tonight at Centennial Olympic Park with an explosion due to go off around 9:30pm. Centennial Olympic Park is a few blocks from the hotel and about a mile and a half from tonight’s social event.

Filming will take place from 7pm to 11:59pm. Streets will be closed and the general filming area will be closed to the public.

Because they are setting off an explosion as part of filming, there will be loud noise, concussion effects, and emergency vehicles/personnel in the area. We were just informed of this, and wanted to let all attendees know in advance.
---

Don't worry about the explosions, it's not the Proud Boys bombing the convention.

I cant imagine New York is that much better considering it's like permanently 95 there and it's on an estuary which means it's probably also permanently humid as hell.

However, this convention the travel share would have been unreasonably high, close to $380. So, the NPC voted to accept a staff proposal to do things differently this year.

Please note that some delegates will ultimately pay more than others with this plan, but we feel it could equalize the costs to some degree while providing a much lower payment requirement for members in the “pay in” pool than if we did one big average travel share rate. This proposal will be significantly subsidized out of DSA general funds, an estimated $14,400.

STEP TWO: Depends on different factors. We have designated the following pools:

Pool ONE is a DRIVING pool for people who spend twelve hours or more (one way) driving OR are exempted from the travel share for other reasons. The Convention Committee voted to make this pool waived from the travel share for hardship reasons, as are people who used airline miles or who received scholarships.

You need to do nothing. You will neither pay into nor get a reimbursement payment out of the pool.

Click HERE if you wish to make a contribution to teh Solidarity Fund to support travel scholarships and subsidies.

Pool TWO is a DRIVING pool for people who drive between zero and twelve hours one way. People who carpool, as in past years, are considered as individuals.

You need to pay a flat rate of $100 into the pool to subsidize comrades with higher travel costs.

This must be completed before being credentialed to vote at convention.

Click here to go to the Zero to Twelve Hours Driving Pool payment page.

Pool THREE is a TRAIN OR PLANE pool for people whose ticket costs are below $250.

They need to pay into the travel pool the difference between their estimated costs and $250. For example, if their plane or train ticket round trip cost them $200, they would make a payment of $50 into the pool to subsidize comrades with higher travel costs.

This must be completed before being credentialed to vote at convention.

Click here to go to the Travel Costs Below $250 payment page.

Pool FOUR is a TRAIN OR PLANE pool for people whose train or flight costs are between $250-350.

You need to do nothing. You will neither pay into nor get a reimbursement payment out of the pool.

Click HERE if you wish to make a contribution to teh Solidarity Fund to support travel scholarships and subsidies.

Pool FIVE is a TRAIN OR PLANE pool for people whose flight or train costs are over $350.

You will receive a reimbursement after the convention from the travel pool in the amount of the difference between your ticket costs and $350. For example, if your plane or train ticket round trip cost you $800, you will receive a reimbursement (if national staff receives a receipt listing the cost) of $450.

Click here if you wish to waive your reimbursement. The reimbursement will be absorbed back into the travel share pool for other comrades. Any leftover funds after travel share reimbursements will be absorbed into the Solidarity Fund.

Bunch of my comrades who took redeye flights to save the chapter money are about to be real unhappy.

And lol for driving 11 hours each way and the way having to pay $100 for the privilege.

Can't imagine trying to track money that chapters are giving to delegates to cover travel, then the person either getting partially reimbursed from national or having to pay more.

oof

miami is 9h away, which means we owe $100

a flight booked right now would be $300, which would put our delegates into the not-owing group and save like 6h of driving time
