Looks like it just joins an attack? Like, if someone is attacking another person who isnt you, this guy can become part of the attack.

Took me a few tries to parse it, but I think I'm reading it correctly.

If Tahngarth is tapped and another player attacks you can have the player gain control of Tahngarth and join in on that attack. If the other player is attacking a player and a planeswalker you can decide which one Tahngarth attacks.

My point is that there shouldn't be "Commander" cards, just like there are no Draft, Standard or Pauper cards. It's lazy design.

Its an interesting design space for a specialized product. I have no issues with it. People love commander for some good reasons. Hating on it is weird because you can honestly just ignore this products existence.

Conspiracy, another specialized product, includes special conspiracy cards that affect the drafting and are unusable in anything other than the specific conspiracy draft you opened them in (unless someone puts them in a cube later).

You can criticize it if you want but 'lazy' is a dumb argument.

EDIT: statue guy might secretly be a stax card, but I'm not sure he's worth it at 3 mana. He's way, way, way too slow to do taken at face value in anything other than precon town.

It's not even that good of a card, jeez. I know you have a hate-on for EDH but this is a silly thing to fuss about.

At the bare minimum, assuming your commander costs 1 of any color, you're paying that plus 2WW for a mere +1/+1. Considering commander tax, you have to pay a collective 8 CMC to even get +2/+2. At that point you may as well just run Elesh Norn.

And that's assuming you're running a 1 CMC commander. Anything else and the overall mana investment is substantially higher.

There might be some fringe places where it's playable, like in some weird Derevi build or something, but it's not very good outside the precon imo.

I could see it in some super aggressive token swarm deck since its a scaling honor of the pure that pumps everyone instead of just white creatures, but outside of that I agree.

Oh loving hell yes that makes perfect sense. I was thinking in context of a 2 player game and how worthless that is. But yeah in a 4 player game I can see how effective that would be especially as a political tool

If you wanna make lots of tokens for Divine Visitation, there are much, much better ways to do it than a 1/1 that makes one per turn. Source: I do play commander, my main deck is a token deck, and I wouldn't run that card. It's a cool, flavourful design, but it seems pretty bad. Hell, I played a Divine Vis deck in Standard on Arena for a bit, and I wouldn't even run it in that.
