I was a nerdy freshman in high school and right after columbine, I had a teacher talking to the class specifically point me out and tell me that they would have killed me too. Which I guess isn't wrong, but seems kind of messed up.

I lived in Georgia at the time and me and my friends happened to wear black jeans the same day (which was the day after Columbine) we got pulled into a room for like 5 hours and basically interrogated about maybe being deviants. We were like 11.

I didn't even dress particularly weird, was still a year or so away from getting heavily into punk and metal and what have you, been I did spend the better part of the year lugging aroung giant fantasy novels. Wheel of Time in particular if you're curious.

It's more for this than the trans content (Nick's had some decent queer representation of late apparently). Nick's core audience isn't going to care about a movie based on a show from before they were born, and the people who want to see that movie aren't gonna watch Nick enough to know it's happening. The only audience you're gonna grab is young-ish parents seeing a promo incidentally while their kid's watching, it's much smarter to just sell distribution rights to a platform where that movie's audience definitely is. They learned this when the Hey Arnold movie flopped; the audience exists, but won't be watching Nick for it. Also notable is that an Invader Zim movie's gone to Netflix at the same time, and that isn't being surprisingly progressive; it's just more Zim.
