And undead. -Tutorial section. -Going off the beaten path leads us to a grown-up crystal lizard who proceeds to destroy me because I'm a fragile magic user. -Ignore that and move on. -Exploring further along, getting beaten down by the earliest drat enemies in the game. -Bounced off of one dude's head off a cliff. -Approach dead/petrified dude with a sword through him and black stuff bubbling out of him -Take out sword, begin boss fight. -Take him down to half health, and the black stuff shoots out of him like Venom on steroids. -Still kill him -Get to the game's hub area and meet friends, old and new. -Head to a castle. -Proceed to die an embarrassing number of times to early enemies. -Everyone's so fast and strong and I'm so slow and weak.  Thank you everyone who came by! -I got enough souls to buy a key, that let me explore a tower next to Firelink Shrine. -Found a dead firekeeper, and got her soul. -Back at the High Wall of Lothric, I'm told to go into a spot I missed to get a new weapon. -Weapon is in a chest. -Chest is a mimic. -Mimic ninja kicks me to death. -Weapon gotten, I got back to explore beyond the shortcut I opened last time. -Big courtyard with stairs leading to a throne room or council room or something, with an old lady sitting in a chair. -Other end of the stairs lead to an area that is TOTALLY not a boss arena. -SURPRISE it's a boss arena. -Boss is big man-dog who is really fast and hits really hard. -Everyone's so fast and strong and I'm so slow and weak. -Not only am I dying to the boss over and over, I'm dying on my way to the boss over and over. -Try summoning NPC phantoms to help. -Try summoning real players to help. -Finally beat boss with the help of a pirate wizard. -Get taken by gargoyles to the Undead Settlement, an old run down village full of hanging bodies and zombie pilgrims. -Find a guy/thing draped in robes and chains and a shell thing who is sad he didn't die. Had a much better session tonight, so hopefully things are settling down now into a smoother ride. -Offstream, I picked up some new clothes and a new ring. -I also found the lady that the thief wanted me to give a ring to. -She was dead. I gave him her bone. -Undead Settlement diverges into many different paths, so there's lot of little corners and dead ends to find goodies (and enemies) in. -Found a pyromancer in a cage. He teleported to the Firelink Shrine to teach me pyromancy. -I made note of a giant archer perched on top of a tower in the distance, firing arrows at... something. -I eventually got to some grounds littered with huge-rear end arrows... put the pieces together. -Got through without being impaled and got to a huge area willed with undead worshiping a tree. -Took no goddamn chances and summoned a couple players right away. -Giant tree is a giant, cursed, moving tree with arms and legs and undead hanging from the branches. -Tree stomps and rolls around, and very tough enemies keep dropping in to distract and kill you. -VERY thankful for summoning those friends to keep me from getting overwhelmed by those enemies. -Tree only takes damage if you hit it in the gooch. I set my sword on fire and joined my allies in gooch-hitting. -Tree crumbles the ground beneath us and we fall into a huge cavern with candles and dead bodies. -Tree dies! Victory! Wow! It be called a WAD called "Hordes of Chaos X". As it's roughly written on the tin, it's Heretic and you're facing hordes of monsters at any given time. I keep a decent balance between challenge and continuity by saving ever 100+ kills, so at least we don't go straight back to Square One any time I'm pasted into a wall. Anyway, starting soon!
