It's actually a bit quicker, I wonder if they bumped up the horsepower from '12 to '13....If not maybe my old one had an issue or something.

The old one is at auction right now so who knows where it will end up. Even if it ended up in a yard near me I know the front left spring and strut are hosed. I would like to get back the RAV4 leather steering wheel i had on it tho.....But i can always find another one on ebay.

Besides, I plan on just driving this one until I get a settlement from the accident. If it's a decent amount (and it should be) I'm gonna get a new Civic Sport MT probably.

Nissan CVTs are the only CVT I’ve ever seen that refuses to act like a CVT. I rented a Rogue for a vacation and sat for 5 hours behind a transmission that groaned and hunted for “gears” to make it sound like it was a standard automatic, and it was such a hilariously poo poo thing to do that I couldn’t help but wonder if it was some sort of ECU flash they shoved in the US bound cars at the last second leaving the factory.

If it would’ve behaved like a normal CVT it wouldn’t have been a half-bad CUV, but I guess taking a modern transmission and making it behave like a chunk of tech from 10 years ago is the Nissan way.

My wife's Juke (still in the stupid garage, somebody buy it) has different modes. In "Sport" mode, it does that fake shifting bullshit. It's annoying and makes the car slower. In regular mode, it operates like a normal CVT -- rev the engine up into it's power range and just keeps it there as the car accelerates.

Honda AT talk. I bought my first new(er) car in 6 years recently, '16 honda accord coupe touring with 6-speed AT slushbox and all the HFP goodies, 69k miles (heh). During the test drive the trans had some irregularities but I figured it was a lazy PO, the dealer had it ~$5k under what KBB considered a normal price. It had a weird trans blip on downshifts, once driven for a few hours it would slip 3rd to 4th on lazy acceleration so I figured the PO never did a trans fluid drain/fill. Even with all the weird poo poo the slushbox would still squawk the tires at WOT from 1st to 2nd. Honda recommends AT trans fluid change 60k if driven normally and at 30k if driven heavily. Did the drain/fill twice in 4k miles and all abnormality is gone, did it again after another 1k when I got an oil change. It's the fastest thing on four wheels I've ever owned so if it drops a trans in the next 2 years I'll just replace it, we love the dual zone A/C and she loves the heated seats because we never loving agree on a temp in the car. On it's maiden voyage around the east coast and whatever the gently caress Ohio is, she had the temp in the 80's with the heated seat on and I had it in the 60's. The last oil change it was noticed the timing belt tensioner was leaking and after I verified with a trusted mechanic I was out $900 on a service that came 30k miles too early, don't care about the $ 'lost', still love the car.

I love the 4EAT, there I said it. My current one with 216k on it still feels sprightly, shifts freakin great and it gets a billion miles to the gallon on the highway (30mpg for a 20yo Subie is fantastic). The phase2 in the 04 was a little better but still, no complaints, both have been solid. Enough so that all things being equal a 5 speed wouldn't be a definite deciding factor. Since I like old poo poo Subarus rust always is anyway.

My wife's Outback does it too. It does everything possible to remind you its a CVT at low speed. Rubber band feel, smooth CVT rpm ramping. But if you go heavy throttle it swears its a real transmission with gears, and does the same drat thing about faking gears. Kind've annoying.

It actually makes it better because in normal mode the Crosstrek's CVT is a rabid piece of utter poo poo in full CVT mode...... and just a piece of utter poo poo in sports modes. Trying to make a CVT work as a CVT simply doesn't work in the real world. In reality the only good thing a CVT does is give you ability to have an absolute moonshot final ratio that gives you cruising fuel economy - while otherwise having the engine working in different areas of the rev band is EXACTLY how real driving works. And frankly the difference is even more stark where I have a CVT programming above what is offered on the Outback or Crosstrek in the Levorg where it works exactly like a 8 speed auto and it is completely and utterly clear in that mode that CVT's are a dumb loving idea for a car.

Hell, I dont need to even go to S# mode - I tip the shifter to M and it will not change "gears" unless I tell it to (except when coming to stop where it will set "First"). And simply put the gearbox is much better even dicking around to the shops and back.

With the Crosstrek the CVT is hot fuckign garbage whatever mode, the Outback is a deal better, the Levorg is about as good as a CVT can get.... which actually is pretty loving damning esp considering that you HAVE to put it into S# modes and go paddle select to actually be worth a fart in hurricane.

I'm a dumbass - it's actually a G5. I got the P411 + Battery and 512MB Cache for $90AUD. Costs the same as the server itself haha. I'm keeping the P400 + Battery with 512MB for the drives on the main server cos why not. The deal for free drive trays from a mate running IT at an Air Force base came to a grind cos their stuff is all Netapps and I dont know if they will work, when I can spend $100 for 10 more trays to completely fill the D2600 over time.

Last night for the DL380 I got two E5450 Xeons for $40 total including postage so thats a nice upgrade without going overboard on the wattage. Also thinking of some TV Tuner PCI-E Cards on the PCI-e Riser compartment for continuous recording of a few TV channels I actually somewhat care about.

It's completely overboard for what I'm using it for but diving head first into projects/hobbies is what I do.

Update on Grandmas car - The parts were half the price I was quoted when she went into the dealer which was nice. What wasn't nice is somehow I've managed to completely gently caress up taking the O2 Sensor off and the special slotted socket is now stuck onto it. Well, successfully completed our first chemo day yesterday, two rounds of different meds that target the estrogen receptors on the cells, and then finished with a round of chemo. We didn't know we were allowed to bring our own pain meds with us and unfortunately they didn't have a whole lot in the range of pain meds on site. Her stomach is extremely sensitive to narcotics/opiates and all they really had was oxycontin which she was given in recovery after her liver biopsy and caused her to go into cold sweats and vomit, so she didn't want to try that. They gave her a little bit of morphine, and I've never seen someone ralph that quickly from something :v:

Once they got some anti-nausea into her IV though she started feeling really good and actually decided to go into the office today for the first time really since her diagnosis!

But I have a super depressing mind-gently caress for the non-Americans though (and to be honest, probably most Americans). When we met with the oncologist and physician's assistant before we started treatment yesterday morning, they let us know that they had to have people fighting with insurance to get her chemotherapy approved. drat, square. I was coming here to bitch, but my problems seem pretty small now.

I had a clogged kitchen sink drain on Monday. It was a pain in the rear end to clear because I couldn't snake it since it was past the vent. It's happened before and I could snake the vent with a 50' snake on the roof. That didn't work this time. I had to cap the vent and use compressed air to clear it, but it cleared.

However, in the midst of the clog, I was getting water in my downstairs ceiling. I thought I just spilled some under the sink as I was taking the plumbing apart and thought it'd go away. Seemed mostly dry when I checked it yesterday morning, great. However, I noticed some wood flooring curling this morning. :siren: Took the dishwasher out and yep... looks like the dishwasher drain blew, probably associated with the clog (it was in the middle of a cycle when the drain clogged). So... flooring is trash. Bottom of cabinets are trash. Downstairs ceiling is trash. Who knows what fresh hell will be inside when they take it apart.

There's speculation (nothing concrete) that friend's death may have been a suicide. :sigh: I've been in touch with his family, they don't know anything more than I do. He has a kid, his ex fights him constantly on custody (and I can attest to her being downright crazy), he's had some legal trouble in the past, and just ran into some more that... really doesn't sound like him (unless he relapsed.. he had almost a year sober under his belt). There was no obvious physical stuff when they found him... :iiam:

The funeral is Friday. Tentative plan is to rent a car with a friend and drive to Dallas, go to the funeral, say hi to our respective parents (his mother lives about 5 minutes from my parents), then coming back, since friend has to work that night (I do too, but my job is a lot more understanding than his; I can pretty much guarantee I won't make it to work Friday since I work overnight Thursday + have to deal with a 7 hour round trip + a funeral).

My parents had something semi-similar happen. They put in an instant hot water tap at their kitchen sink (the sink is on the outside west wall, clear across the house from the water heater on the east wall... WH in the attic, pipes run through the slab, so yeah, it takes forever to get hot water in the kitchen). Someone (not pointing fingers at stepdad) didn't tighten a worm clamp. Not an instant water heater setup, but one of those little tiny water heaters that goes to a tap at the sink (the hole is now used by a soap dispenser).

Hello, 5 figure insurance claim - they'd put in hardwood flooring through most of the house (sans bedrooms) at the same time as the kitchen remodel. Wound up having to replace about 1/3 of it, plus drying everything out. They're lucky they caught it pretty early.

It'll be interesting to see what happens. There's some bamboo flooring that trashed, but it's part of ~1000sq ft of that flooring and I have no idea how you'd make that match and still have the super-hard factory coating (we've had it for about 5 years and were just talking about how well it has held up)... and there's some laminate tiles that are trashed too... neither one can be matched in any way that I know. But together it's about 1500sq ft... that's a huge amount of flooring to replace. But anything's fixable, and I know there are companies that do this every day.

Insurance is a motherfucker. They've been fighting diagnostic poo poo for a long time with the wife and I. Some days she can't walk, but she's "healthy" so they tell us to gently caress off. Multiple sed rates and crps taken months apart ten to fifteen times the high end of the range, all the classic signs of a whole host of autoimmune poo poo, and we still have to pay for a lumbar puncture and imaging out of pocket. Oh, and she's been diagnosed with myasthenia Gravis, but they won't cover a dime of the medication for it so the best we can do is a shitton of choline supplements.

I'm sorry you all have so much worse poo poo to deal with. Private Healthcare needs to be die.

On the plus side, I finally tracked down a wheel bearing for her lovely car for less than 50 bucks so I can get rid of that horrible loud rear end roar on the rear left.

Nissan wants almost 500 bucks to put one in. What in the hell is wrong with them.
