Generating virtual faces isn't terribly hard, here's a site that does it whenever you refresh: https://thispersondoesnotexist.com/ The thing neural nets seem to have problems with is like, smaller stuff with fine detail, like hair, it always seems to gently caress up hair. I assume any company that wants to use it to make a virtual person follows up each image with a bunch of manual photoshopping to fix that poo poo.

Also occasionally (like just now) it generates some Cronenberg horror just off to the side of the face, which is always fun:

This isn't neural nets though, just good old CGI. Photorealism in static images hasn't been a problem for decades, it's motion that still suffers from uncanny valley. Check out any of the "scanned face in a void" animated SIGGRAPH demos from the past few years and focus on the blinking.

Shame Boy posted:Also occasionally (like just now) it generates some Cronenberg horror just off to the side of the face, which is always fun: With this one you can easily tell it's generated (besides the obvious cronenberg horror) by looking at the finer details in the face like eyelid folds, the whites of the eyes are blurry, the hair is weird, the teeth have some strange artefacts etc. The previous ones are no way fully generated, I don't believe that for a second. Seems like a good PR stunt using actual human models more than anything.

Even with the thing I linked if you sit there re-rolling for a little bit you'll find a pretty convincing one that wouldn't require much manual work to clean up.

just filled out an online job application where they had a 115 question survey and about 20 of the questions were variations of "do you think groups of similar backgrounds work better together" or what seemed to me "are you racist?" another dozen questions asked how lazy i was, and then there was a solid 15 about how much i'd be willing to sell out my personal life in exchange for working extremely long and unusual hours.

I'm going to have a lot of fun with this IRL at work I'm going to start using "De" instead of de word that OSU has a pending copyright claim upon. If anyone asks, I'll warn them that they might be infringing on a multimillion dollar edifice's copyrights and insist they never use that word in my presence why yes, my boss does hate me, why do you ask
