Also had the benefits call about the buyout (we're getting bought) and it sounds like our great benefits and vacation package is getting gutted. Not sure what's worse; them arguing it was a great package or the 30 minute sales pitch before they got to the benefit stuff. This whole merger/buyout is stressing me the hell out way too much for something I have absolutely zero control over.

Same happened to us a couple of years ago. The family that runs the company and all of the head honchos sat in front of all of us before the purchase and assured us that since their company was so much bigger than ours they would be able to blow our benefits package out of the water. A month later, we lost our company 401K match, and insurance premiums went up and we got shittier plans. E: It was mildly amusing during the 401K informational meeting for employees, when the rep was walking everyone through their thick confusing 401K books someone asked what the match was, and she said "Unfortunately xyz company does not offer a 401K match at this time." and a dozen people simultaneously closed their books and walked out without a word being said. Just need to vent here, because jesus gently caress everything sucks. Dad's got lung cancer. 87, smoked since he was 14, farmer before "Health and Safety" was a thing. Not a shock, but, yeah. Now my oldest brothers in hospital in Vegas. Went down for a friends daughters wedding. Felt like poo poo. They finally hauled him to the hospital where he spent almost a week before they figured out his massive bowel blockage was due to an extreme case of diverticulitis (he's never had issues before.) Emergency surgery last Sunday, he was slowly recovering, and took a turn for the worse last night. He's back in ICU getting blood transfusions, and apparently things just "aren't going well". My other brother was able to go down and is there with him. I don't have the time, money or passport to get to the loving US to see him, and I'm worried that our couple hour visit during my vacation last month was the last time I'll have seen him. gently caress the goddamn world.

Hey remember laser printer chat from a while back? I was about to drop money on a mono all in one and my wife changed her mind at the last moment, so I now need recommendations for a colour all in one laser that won't break the bank. Not expecting photo quality colour printers obviously. I need to move forward planning to build a craft cabin in the garden to get my wife's craft stuff out of the house. She's no private space really and it's everywhere. Might start a thread in DIY. And I decided I can't be arsed repairing the S40, it needs parts that'll cost as much as it's worth when I fix it plus I'd rather spend my little free time elsewhere so I'll try and sell it as needing repairs, if that doesn't work (it won't) I'll strip some bits out and scrap it. Wonder how many of the speakers I can squeeze into the Panda?

I'm stupid obviously and have spent more buying things to make it what I want it to be peicemeal, but hey that works with my budget and I get my 'buying poo poo' endorphins. The Junk Room is now turning into a combination Server Room/Gym as I scored a pretty neato home gym for free that the owners couldnt figure out the steel cabling after they tinkered and it turned to spaghetti. I can get some free sound deadening stuff through 'liberation' at work. Also free ducting for airflow and just RIP the person that comes to visit and requires the 3rd bedroom. It's gonna be loud server and a sweaty me in there a lot of the time! As for Rock is dead... Slipknots 'We Are Not Your Kind' is the #1 Album here in Oz. Yup, music is not all about the poo poo force fed on commercial radion nowadays. As a teen I relied on one radio station for the 'latest' and a store with listening areas. Now I rush to the TV to see what the random song recommended to me is sung by on my streams. Or I just crawl into my old stuff and find out they have a new album coming out. Happened with Blink 182 a few years ago - sadly it was pretty poo poo but hey, new stuff from a band I like!

Woke up before the asscrack of dawn to go on a Jeep run. Took a bit of getting ready before I realized that it was remarkably warm in the house. Four degrees above the thermostat set point. Air handler moving air, but the outside heat pump? Suddenly so quiet that until I went outside to see if it blew the breaker, I thought it wasn't running. Wife insisted I should go on the Jeep run anyway, but my C10 without front suspension is blocking any access to the attic, and with a 20 year old heat pump I don't like my odds of this being a repair and not a replacement. So time to spend the morning wrenching, I guess.
