Lots of good stuff here but I’m finding myself getting frustrated with that aspect of the game as a solo player.

It’s made worse by the fact that the adds aren’t really necessary for the bosses to be hard. Singe, for example, either needs fewer adds or less health. It’s just stupid the way it is now.

Spoiler broke us pretty hard, the amount of garbage you have to deal with in that fight is stupid, and the fact that trying to melee an immolator is either the best way to deal with them or a suicide mission based on whether they are on fire feels real bad.

It's a fight that feels like I'm just missing some small trick, like a way to put out fires, but it seems like it really just is that stupid.

Yeah Baby Yeah !
You get access to the other classes starting weapons, armour, and ability mods like instantly.
So go with whatever range you wish to fight at because you will have all the basic gear for that setup but can switch at any time if you want. I personally just made one of each character and got my rear end kicked with all three.
Did you get the SMG in Sector 13 or whatever? It's pretty good if hilarious at making the game drop frames

Some of the random mods on bosses are brutal. The first boss I got was Shroud and after fifteen or so tries I finally decided to reroll my world so that I could upgrade some more poo poo. Half way through one-shotting it after I got back there I noticed that the exploding puff-balls were no longer spawning on top of me every few seconds and realized they must have been from whatever mod I rolled the first time.

I think Shroud is guaranteed to be the first boss so you should have access to the Decoy mod. That thing is amazing for the-boss-in-spoiler-tags. If you hit the giant glowing weakspot fairly consistently the Decoy will recharge extremely quickly, then you just pop the minions when you need ammo (personally I shoot them, melee is too dangerous in that fight imo).

By that point all your gear should also be +5 and if it's not, make sure to always check the merchat in the Hub who sells Iron. It's only 10 scrap a piece, dirt cheap.

Literally never seen shroud. Both starts the first boss was Gorefist.

I think that's actually the most important thing, this game is a lot more of a rogue-like than it is a souls-like. It's got some of the same kind of difficulty curve that souls games have, but it's a different beast in terms of how just about everything works. You will probably reroll your campaign at least once, and you'll be going to friends' games to get things that spawned in their world that didn't spawn in yours.

Ran across the first boss fight I would consider "poorly designed". Small bridge. Deadly fall on both sides. Destructible cover. Multi-phase boss with area denial abilities that can also knock you off the bridge. Spawns a second copy of itself at 75%, on the other side of the bridge.

This by itself wouldn't be too bad, but of course there are also adds. It spawns 15 or so every 25% chunk of health for each boss. The adds home on you and cause respectable damage and stagger when they durka durka your rear end. The adds do not drop ammo on kill. At no point during the fight does either boss come into melee range. Hope you enjoy spending loads of scrap on ammo boxes! It suuuuucks.

Think I got a way to beat it figured out, but goddrat they let the resident office rear end in a top hat design that fight. Even the singed dragon at least had ammo available.

It was in one of the first couple of sewer tilesets with meatball enemies right outside the base. There was a side room with a quote from an Indiana Jones movie spraypainted on a concrete wall that functions as the key to the puzzle. Even though worlds are randomly generated, I expect someone will run across the same thing somewhere else with different loot but the same puzzle. Amulet has been a lifesaver.

Edit:
Found a screenshot I took after clearing the zone because it made me chuckle.

I found a hidden trait that involves the Junkshop(yard?) I forget the exact name, and the NPC shopkeep inside. The shopkeep is wearing a mask that he says talks to him and is clearly driving him a little bit mad. You can push the subject and demand that he hand the mask over, he'll attack you and drop the mask. You can then take the mask back to the Wailing Tree (it was right next to a Checkpoint called "Wailing Tree" for me, equip it and now you'll be able to understand the incomprehensible "Tree language". He'll give you the Barkskin trait, that gives you a % increase to your Armor.

Now I don't how all the randomness works, but I'll assume if you have the Ent boss you'll have the rest of the set pieces to do this, since its all kind of a story line.

The Devastator crossbow is really good for this fight but you'll also need a high dps, relatively quick firing secondary to knock it out of it's charge up scream and to take care of the glowing things it sends after you. And yeah, you'll probably need at least one ammo box to beat it.

Someone on the steam forums said that the devs position is "Well, even if we put anti-cheat people will still find ways to cheat so might as well not try". Dunno if they really said something like that but the game seems to have zero hacking prevention.

Unlimited items/moneys aside, I imagine they could potentially break your game via key item manipulation on you character if it's that easy. And the game being auto-save only and having no character backup....

RazzleDazzleHour
Mar 31, 2016

I was going to say that like, if I had made this game I wouldn't have any idea how to prevent hacking and poo poo like that, so if it was a smaller dev team that defense would make sense. But uhhhhhhh

Checking the dev team also led me to find out this game was published by Perfect World, the Chinese company who runs the Chinese Dota 2 servers which are notoriously bad. It's...possible they have something to do with it? Maybe hacking prevention would be a server-side check and PW told them they didn't have the resources to use on their game or something, since PW are probably the publishers because of a server agreement. "They'll just hack anyways" sounds like an obfuscation of an actual issue, and not wanting to throw their publisher under the bus, to me, sounds like a pretty good reason to come up with something when just being up-front about it would be much better. Saying "we don't know enough about the processes that hackers use to hack the game, so until we find out more we can't do anything to prevent it right now" reads totally differently than "ehhh gently caress it"

When someone grabs iron, scraps or whatever on the ground everyone else on the team also gets the items so I think it's as simple as:

*hacker decides to add 1.000.000 iron to his inventory
*party gets 1.000.000 iron

Same for key items, so, it's not even that they don't know how to prevent it, the way they coded it makes it really easy to break MP via hacking

Game has a good core gameplay but the bosses with adds suck a lot and it has no way of communication with team mates in-game. (no need for text/voice chat but a chatwheel and enemy/location ping would make coop a lot better)

I don't think it's simple, but just doing nothing on a game that's meant to be played as co-op is bad. I love Dark Souls and it had some great ideas about multiplayer but the implementation sucked, and it's a 9 year old games, games should improve with time.

People will always find ways to cheat with their own characters, what they should try to prevent is other players modifying your char.
