none of these jurisdictions are common law states. China has far fewer extradition treaties than other nations because of its poor human rights record and lack of a credible legal system.

The issue is that the joint declaration's authority was valid until HK became a subject of the PRC and therefore the PRC constitution. It is true, the UK could argue that possible moves by the PRC are a violation of the agreement but it would be an issue of international law. Also the PRC probably has enough pull in both the General Assembly (not to mention veto power in the UNSC) to avoid even censure.

As for the violation of human rights, there indeed no guarantee but honestly, in any real legal sense, it didn't exist in the first place. That said, I would say there deserves to be fear at least by some.

These rights are also guaranteed under the basic law (right to free speech, right to protest, right to vote, etc) and they are specifically called rights in the basic law not privileges although I too agree that the ccp may see them as privileges.

So yes HK people are going to use these rights and defend these rights.

Statist style communists that want a soviet style state rammed down everyone’s throat do ruin everything.

But the stateless communist anarchists are pretty chill. Most of you guys would be less obnoxious and more mellow if you were like the stateless type of Marxists.

Well what a shame, being that bolshevism isn't a threat to capitalism either. Perhaps one day we will discover socialists who are both obnoxious and a threat...

Who even says "bolshevism" unless they are a nazi conspiracy theorist or want to distinguish specifically early Soviet Marxism-Leninism from Marxism-Leninism in general? European socdems, leftcoms and anarchists circa 1920 when they tried to keep presenting themselves as the important communists and the Soviets as a corruption? Anyway, can't really say bolshevism was an existential threat to capitalism given what happened historically. More like by far the most important and instructive failure at being such a threat the world had seen yet. Had it just been defeated by external enemies, then sure, but that really wasn't the case.

I'm starting to think iceaim is actually serious because they don't seem to get internal tankie logic like Typo did. Tankies mostly don't imagine themselves as power-trippy commissars, they're like cheering fans of a sports team, swooning over the feats of the most famous players and waiting for them to win so that they get an excuse to celebrate. So far as they're authoritarians, they're authoritarian followers trying to explain to each other how whatever their heroes did was right and a great victory. Now that I think about it, I'm willing to bet that a lot of them started out as rebelling against religious or otherwise ultraconservative environments because it's so common for them to have an unexplained reactive disgust toward stuff like like sex, drugs and alcohol.

real-talk the whole "ML isn't actually that threatening/effective" kinda stinks when the alternative being proposed is stateless anarchism, which has AFAICT achieved a hell of a lot less than whatever low bar you perceive Leninist movements to have reached

Since Hong Kongers refuse any integration, I imagine on 2047, all the high school students will have two version of textbooks and after Oct 1 you start using the mainland version in simplified Chinese and you have to take 7 subjects including politic for college entrance examination. I mean, that's where we are heading isn't it.

I sort of assume Hong Kong will be under water come 2047 if climate change continues as it is.
