Allows the importation of older fic archives instead of those stories being lost forever when the archive closes, which is usually server fees. Legal defence fund. A fannish next of kin system so if you die you can still give permission for podfic or, hell, just a note saying your WIP isn't going to be finished. A wiki for fanlore incase you want to know the history of slash. A peer reviewed academic journal. And other stuff I might have missed.

Fan fiction writing should be used in the same way a spec script is used. A way to hone in your voice while bouncing off someone else's. It's a fun thing to do, but if that;'s all you're doing, your work will never get better.

Not sure how many people here used to read the old PYF TVTropes thread from a while back (I know Jake Chapman did but he doesn’t post here anymore) but the only thing that truly broke that thread was a piece of MLP fanfic

Yeah, the Fluffy Pony stuff was pretty heinous, but it's worth noting that it was basically a copy-paste of the 'yukkuri' stuff from Touhou fandom (a fascinating topic in its own right - it's basically a fandom that became its own artistic endeavour entirely separate from the game's it's based on), not some fresh, original brony perversion.
