a thing that's happened a couple times is that people have felt a sort of intentional evil feeling from souboutei, which the black planet creatures didn't have, so ive been assuming that the real problem here is that the dark planet aliens finally realized that the ocean planet became stronger by utilizing human emotions. and found their own human to get emotions from

I sort of assumed it was a direct homage, but I've been reading the entire comic as something of a love letter to weird/cosmic horror and Taisho-era Japanese Surrealism, so the deck was a bit stacked towards that conclusion. As always, thanks a ton for your dedication in bringing this to us, Mr. Steak! All of your releases have been great! Pardon the dumb question, but has the actual run of the comic come to a close yet, or is it still actively running? I can't tell if the 'Ongoing' status listed on most websites was referring to its translation or not.

So is this going to turn into the first movie adaptation of Old Boy? Because dude loved his sister and probably just locked the only person to know about it into a metaphorical room for god knows how many years. I'm still waiting to see Zanka fully taken in by the house.

I'm still waiting to see Zanka fully taken in by the house. this actually got me thinking, because its true there are a number of similarities. not with the "imprisonment" angle, but the way the scene is structured. both this chapter and oldboy have a villain with a sister complex, which is revealed in a flashback culminating in a horrifying voyeuristic moment. (and also relates to that sister's death) also, as soon as you said oldboy i thought of one image. do you think it's a stretch to say that this shot of broken glass around zanka's eye was a deliberate homage to the film? you know what i'm thinking about lately? loving rip morita, man. he was such a good guy. i hope theres some bullshit later where they, like, resurrect his ghost into a robot version of himself lol. can we please get mecha-morita destroying souboutei? actually, how many character deaths have there even been in this manga? way fewer than it feels like, thats for sure. even if we count possession as functionally killing a character (and being *very* generous with counting the scientists as characters we "knew"), i only count 6 (morita, monk guy, eldest kirita sister, scientist woman, kirk and max). and out of those, morita is the only one to be even a little sad about. what a waste tbh, like, i know him and yadorigi filled the same "military" niche in their squad, and yadorigi is bae so i'd never wish her harm, but come on morita did nothing wrong. edit: oh yeah also rokurou's dad too i guess Mr. Steak fucked around with this message at 16:53 on Jul 28, 2019 |

every main character watched someone they love get murdered by the house, and it made them know that Souboutei Must Be Destroyed and morita is that for the reader imo

well here's some insider knowledge for the goons before it's official: we're probably going back to speedscans for the foreseeable future, after death toll releases chapter 70 tomorrow. workload issues became too much. but honestly we kept it up for longer than anybody expected. so, well thats good news for people who only want to read the series quickly. bad news for people who care about redrawing and cleaning. i've actually already finished chapter 71 so after we release 70 as a group, i'll kick off the solo scans right away. edit: okay, they are quite passionate about the quality of souboutei releases, and have won me over again for the time being. we are going to recruit the gently caress out of all the redrawers, and believe me if the releases ever go longer than im satisfied with, then i'll end it. the helvetica problem wont happen again haha Mr. Steak fucked around with this message at 15:53 on Jul 31, 2019 |

I love how much more menacing and inhuman Shino looks compared to the happy young Shinobu we saw. It's pretty clear that Deido drew her with that distant expression due to the context of that memory being tainted in Deido's mind. And the way Shino takes those attributes of the painting and exaggerates them makes the differences even more striking. And I think that's really cool.
