Something that comes to mind is that there might not be a lot of gatewatch presence in this unless there's a lot of Planeswalker cards in the set. Rowan and Will are confirmed to be in the set, and now so is Garruk and Oko.

As someone who just jumped back in with M20, I'm pretty happy that the next set is going to be such a relative clean slate--way better than jumping in right before WAR. It seems like a good time to introduce new players to the game too, especially if the five courts do end up with easy to understand mono color identities.

This whole thing has confused the gently caress out of me. So was he cheating or not? Didn't he say the initial picture was a different decklist and that he had changed his sideboard around after the initial picture was taken? Or is he just sort of tacitly admitting to cheating without coming out and saying directly that he was cheating?

Seems like they want to balance new planes vs returning to planes, and Zendikar, Innistrad and (obviously) Ravnica seem too recent. They could just give us three new planes to make up for three Ravnica sets, or go back to New Phyrexia to make them the next focus of the metaplot, but Theros seems like a good fit to me, though one issue that could be a problem is that Mark Rosewater said they won't have room for all the gods in one set. Figuring out how to condense planes into one set is something they have to figure out eventually though.

It's up to you if you want to believe that. Honestly it really does sound like the kind of "well it's not against the rules" scam an old school player would try to pull.

I hope they don't do mega blocks too often, since it kind of defeats the purpose of moving away from blocks in the first place. Ravnica sort of demands it because the guilds are so integral to everything about it, and there's no way to do all ten in one set, but otherwise I'd be happy if they dip in and out of different planes so if one of them sucks it doesn't drag a whole year down with it. If a plane's popular enough that everyone wishes there was another set when it's done, they can always go back to it later, but with an already long list of places people want to see again, being able to knock out three different planes most years would be nice. If skipping a few gods in Theros, or limiting it to the underworld or whatever opens room for an entirely new plane, I think it's a good trade, because otherwise returning to various planes is going to clog up everything since Ravnica, Innistrad, Dominaria and Zendikar are all as close to being guaranteed to come back multiple times as anything can be, and even something like Tarkir seems more likely than not to be revisited down the line.
