Re: Heinlein, I don't think anyone can think he isn't some kind of debased pervert if they've read Time Enough for Love. This is the novel where the explicit self-insert main character travels back in time to gently caress his own mother, and it ends with him retiring to a hedonistic sex paradise with two under-aged female clones of himself, who Heinlein makes very, very clear are horny for the main character.

Here's an image I took in 2004 atop one of the larger dunes in an area south of Florence, OR. These are the places where Herbert got his original idea for the novel, based on anti-desertification projects that were taking place near coastal Oregon towns with the seeding of certain flora that hemmed in shifting sands. I had just read the book for the first time about 2 years earlier.
